MEMORIES ENTERTAINMENT PVT.LTD.

The company which we have choose is Memories Entertainment Pvt. Ltd and we interviewed the
entrepreneur who is Mr.Sebastian Angelus Douglas. He is from Cameron Highlands, Pahang.
He starts his education at Holy Infant Jesus Convent, Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands (1965-
1970) for primary education and continued to Methodist High School, Ipoh (1971-1975) for
secondary education. Then, he joined and started Lower 6 SMK Tengku Ahmad Shah in Ipoh in
the year 1976 and complete it in the year 1977. Later he applied to study diploma in Personnel
and Human Resource Management in Malaysian Institute of Personnel Management (MIPM).In
1990, took up degree in event management at the same institute but was studying part time.
Upon completion of his studies he start works as a event consultant for about 5 years of working
experience in the same company before he was promoted to General Manager for more than 10
years till now. His company is doing designing and managing the entire event management
process that inspires the minds and captures the hearts of the clients as well the audience. The
services which are provided are entertainment and talent, audio/video technical support,
photography, videographers, catering, studio recording, on-site event management, logistic
planning, vendor negotiation and many more. (Appendix 1)

We have choose four aspects to analyses the success of our entrepreneur that we have
choose. The first aspect is what makes an entrepreneur. An entrepreneur refers to a person who
able to organize, manage and assume the risks of the business that they are committed in. They
are also an individual who is willing to take financial risks and responsibility, grab in all new
opportunities and innovate in order to make profit to the business. A person becomes an
entrepreneur due to some reasons. Firstly, financial ambitions and gain where each of them have
the ambition to be a millionaire and be one of the top entrepreneur in market. Next, secure in
financial future life where in the case of daily earner when he/she has to retire from his/her work
they won’t have any income coming in but as for a entrepreneur they have no restriction about
income . As for Mr.Sebastian the client of him are satisfied with the event which he had design
and produced. Besides that, the collective team effort from the senior workers and the
subordinates contributes to his company success. (Appendix 1)

The second aspect is entrepreneur as a style of entrepreneurs. It defines as the

entrepreneur is innovative, growth n manage in profit. The style of entrepreneur can be divided
into to potions which is management and decision making. The positive attitude towards work
and well planned management system leads to the successful completion of a project. The work
program should be apply in a organization in order to form a basic of the overall work so that the
work must be scheduled and done accordingly as planned. The material and quality control, a
good financial control and having talented worker helps to contribute to a good finished project.
Therefore a good result can be produce with a proper team work with a good usage of the
existing resourses. Decisions are make for optimization of design, cost control, and time
management by monitoring the team works job. As for Mr.Sebastian he uses reward power such
as incentives for employees. All the project which is conduct will be run by very knowledgeable
project manager and all feedbacks or opinions are directly asked or discussed to Mr.Sebastian.

The third aspect is the relationship between innovation and entrepreneurship. The
innovation in the business is important in order to do changes leading to improvement in the
quality and quantity of the products as well as techniques of doing things. Through innovation,
the entrepreneur introduces new production techniques, new commodities, improve on existing
ones, open up new markets, explore new source of raw materials and design new techniques of
management. The research and development programs which are conduct are formal of
introducing or inculcating innovative skills in the entrepreneur. The knowledge that they have
gained is translate in to the business establishment and development. The process of
entrepreneurship starts from the generation of business idea, through implementation to the
realization of output and profit. Based for Mr.Sebastian, the innovation that they have and the
cost effective planning is used for managing events make continuous relationship with other
companies. (Appendix 1)

Lastly, aspect is defining entrepreneur success is very important which determine the
how the entrepreneurs are born in business sector. Research says that success means achieving
whatever we wish to accomplish in life. A successful life is creating the kind of life you wish for
and not restrict to only money, prestige and power. We can always strive to build better life but
the only one saying no is ourselves. We can employ our talents to reap benefits but we too often
use the same talents to make ourselves miserable.(Sheila Cohill, 2000). Mr.Sebastian point out
that his success is from the clients satisfaction. Besides that the profit of the company should be
equally divide to the staff . His aim is to develop the company by getting project from the
government as well for the major events of the country. (Appendix 1)

As for the question whether this entrepreneur will be successful in the future, our answer
is yes. We say so because the entrepreneur made a planning of opening up his own company
when he was a employee. The driving factor for him to become an entrepreneur is that he wants
the best for his family in education, living style, a good position in society and also to become a
millionaire. For Mr.Sebastian business view, it can be seen that he implies the proper
management way to handle business whether it involves working coordination and management
level. It can be seen clearly that he implies his management skills in his working area. He has
much organized planning for future plan of his company. So we say that Mr. Sebastian will be a
successful entrepreneur in near future.

Mr. Sebastian concluded the interview by quoting “It’s how much you want it that
determines where you end up”. We hope that our group report contains much needed and

 First started working in an Australian Based Government Factory in Midford, Old Klang
road.
Stopped working for 10 years and was indulging himself in the music industry as a
guitarist for nightclubs and pubs.
 Later was offered a job as an event consultant in Memories Entertainment Pvt.Ltd.
 After 5 years of working experience, he was promoted to be general manager for events
management in the same company and has ever since been working for 10 years.
 Memories entertainment Pvt.Ltd. is a private owned company which organizes and
designs events such as conferences, exhibitions, public and private events for various
companies such as PETRONAS, Public Bank and etc.
 Define Entrepreneurial success in your opinion
 For me, success is achieved when my clients are satisfied with the event which is
design and produced by me and the company.
 Continuous effort and performance from every department related to the event.

 As an entrepreneur, what are the characteristics that you instilled to yourself after
being promoted as general manager in the company?

 Charismatic, business minded; develop myself to be a democratic leader, to be

moderate but stern, and never selfish on giving out knowledge to colleagues.

 Do you have anything which you take as guidance before you make a move on your
attempt to achieve something?
 Continuous relationship with other companies
 Risk management is used by Mr. Sebbastian in order to meet the demands of the
clients.
 Staff members in company ensure there always profit for the company.
 Cost effective planning is used for management events.
 He ensures that his subordinates are satisfied with their workplace.
