Chris -

Thanks very much for arranging for the new WABE guide. Unfortunately, we will not have a chance to participate this
year. We have suffered very severe budget cuts, including in our office, and it seems that the workload is only
increasing. Our FY 12 budget will be very difficult to bring in. The County Council also has launched three separate
commissions to study how we can improve our operations, which is consuming nearly all our time, because they are
demanding extensive research into everything we do going back ten years. Unfortunately, we just don't have the
resources to complete the WABE survey this year. Hopefully, we will be able to participate in the future. We greatly
appreciate the WABE guide and its value to all the districts. But I just don't have any choice this year.

If there is any way I can help short of filling out the survey, I will do my best given our other problems. I have reviewed the
issue with members of our Board of Education and with our superintendent and they understand the constraints that we
face.

Good morning.  
 
Just a reminder, the FY 2011 WABE Guide meeting will be held on Monday, August 9, from 10:30 a.m. to
12:30 p.m., at the Fairfax County Public Schools’ Gatehouse Administrative Building in the Superintendent’s
Conference Room (Room 5055). The Gatehouse Administrative Center is located at 8115 Gatehouse Road,
Falls Church, VA 22042. Driving directions are at the bottom of this email.
 
Please bring a copy of the draft 2011 WABE Survey (attached) and the 2010 WABE Guide (available at
http://www.fcps.edu/fs/budget/wabe/2010.pdf) to the meeting. I am also attaching the agenda and a revised list
of potential modifications that will be discussed.  

Just for your information, it is my understanding that Montgomery County will not be participating this year in
the WABE group due to budget and workload issues.

Driving Directions: 

Fairfax County Public Schools Gatehouse Administration Center I is located at 8115 Gatehouse Road, Falls
Church, Virginia <http://www.fcps.edu/maps/cabI.htm> near the intersection of the Capital Beltway (Route
495), Arlington Boulevard (Route 50), and Gallows Road.  
 
From Arlington Boulevard, go north on Gallows Road (toward Merrifield). Turn right after the shopping center
onto Gatehouse Road. The administration center is on the right.  
 
Continue past the building and turn right onto the service road behind the administration center. The entrance
to the garage is on the right after the loading dock.  
 
Please park in the garage and enter the building through the elevator lobbies. Room 5055 is on the fifth floor,
and there will be a sign when you exit the elevator to direct you to the room.
