d. This article was about a new implemented program in high school biology classrooms on
teaching the “Brain and Learning”. 41 biology teachers and 1241 students grades 8-9 in
the Netherlands participated. The module consisted of three lessons: brain processes
underlying learning, neuropsychological development during adolescence, and lifestyle
factors that influence learning performance. It is stated that not only were teachers
able to learn more about their students’ behavior and become more understanding, but
the students were able to learn more about the way they learn and develop. The results
of teaching this module show that this would be an excellent addition to current high
school biology curriculum.

d. This case study was used to implement and oversee how “case study methodology”
works in high school biology classrooms. Specifically, they examined how academic
achievement, problem solving skills, teamwork skills, and science attitudes were
affected during this study. The teachers were also studied during this time on their
“teacher beliefs” on constructivist learning environments by using the Constructivist
Learning Environment Survey. Eleven classes, five teachers, and 250 biology students
participated in this study over two consecutive quarters of a school year. Throughout
the school year, multiple tests were used to see if any improvements in attitudes,
achievements, and problem solving and team work skills were made. This study is
significant as it addresses on teaching case study methodology in secondary education.
