Introduction
Belmont Asia (NDT & Quality Services) were commissioned by CCI S
Iraq/ Al waha Company to conduct a series of inspections and integrity
testing of the underground effluent pipelines at their site in Hilla -Iraq.
A preliminary site visit was arranged and took place on Saturday 16th May.
This preliminary site inspection was used to perform an initial visual
inspection of the underground pipelines and to decide on the best
approach for performing the integrity tests.
Summary of Results
From the initial site visits and by examining the site drainage map, it was found
that a considerable network of process waste pipelines exist. It was decided to
test these pipelines in sections to allow for better control. None of the pipelines
tested were found to show any signs of leaking / Damage / Destruction
Following the initial site visit, a work plan was drawn up which detailed
necessary preparatory work to be carried out by the company before
testing could proceed. This included clearing all the Lines of any rubbish
etc., raising of any electrical equipment in the Pipelines

From examining the site drainage map it was decided that the most
practical way to test the pipelines was to divide it up into sections and then
test each section. The pipelines were divided up into a number of sections
from manhole to manhole. The inflow of process waste was controlled by
turning off certain processes during the test period.
The drainage system tested at consists of three tributary pipelines running into
one main pipeline. This main pipeline then runs into the main effluent sump and
from here the effluent is pumped to the treatment plant.
The pipelines have passed the integrity test and are in compliance with the
standard.
Manhole Inspection
All the manholes were visually inspected and found no signs of leaking /
Damage / Destruction
