Cantonment Boards:
A Cantonment Board is a body corporate under the Cantonments Act, 2006 having
perpetual succession. A list of the 62 Cantonment Boards in the country is enclosed
below. As per Section 10(2) of the Act, every Cantonment Board is deemed to be a
municipality under clause (e) of article 243P of the Constitution for the purpose of:-
Biodiversity Management Committees: As per the Biological Diversity Act, the local
bodies constitute the BMC in accordance with Section 41, within their area of
jurisdiction for the purpose of promoting conservation, sustainable use and
documentation of biological diversity including preservation of habitats, conservation of
land races, folk varieties and cultivars, domesticated stocks and breeds of animals,
micro-organisms and chronicling of knowledge relating to biological diversity.
Peoples Biodiversity Registers (PBRs) at local level to document and to safe guard bio-
resources and associated knowledge, should be maintained.
