2019/2020

SMAK TIARA KASIH

KONTRAK PEMBELAJARAN

Field of Study : English

Teacher : David Lewis
Class/Semester :X/1
Academic Year : 2019 / 2020

1. DESCRIPTION OF SUBJECT
Given the role of English as an international language, the teaching of English to high school
students in Indonesia is of great importance to their future success. Exposure of English from
native-English speakers ensures students follow correct pronunciation, become more fluent
in their speech and learn “real” English. Students will also learn the intricacies of the
language and how small changes, in grammar or intonation for instance, can affect the
intended meaning when communicating. Interaction with native-speakers in a classroom
creates a real purpose to use English and builds confidence within students.

2. COMPETENCE STANDARDS
Students will be studying at a B1 level (CEFR – Common European Framework of
Reference), taking them to a B2 level. They will be able to maintain interaction and clearly
communicate their meaning in a range of situations encountered in everyday life. Follow and
contribute to the main points of discussion, provided that the speech is clear and in standard
dialect. Be able to cope in routine situations while travelling where English is the spoken
language. Be able to deal with less routine situations, such as describing unfamiliar objects
or discussing solutions to problems. They will be able to describe experiences and events,
dreams, hopes and ambitions, and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and
plans.

3. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
By the end of the semester, students will:

Interact more confidently using the English language

Have the ability to use “real” English

Have a broader range of vocabulary related to the topics being taught

Have a better understanding of the English language

Have the ability to participate in a non-technical conversation

Have increased oral fluency

Have improved listening skills
