Reflection

My group is given a coursework to complete a few tasks that related to the


various literary genres. As I recalled on the process of doing this coursework, it
was an assignment which was very difficult as it involved the use of English
language in literary texts. But, in fact I had learnt new knowledge through this
coursework. I felt thankful because my group could overcome all the problems
that we met.

After I was given the task by my lecturer, Miss Chong, my group members
and I had accessed to the internet to search for the related information. My group
is required to find relevant information concerning each type of genres in
literature, namely short stories, poems and literary devices. No doubt, the
process of selecting the relevant information is not easy. There are too many
articles and some of them were complicated, thus we have to choose and read
through them carefully in order to obtain the suitable articles. In this case, I felt
proud of my group because my group member and I had tried our best and
luckily we managed to gain the information that we wanted at last. After we
collected the relevant information, we began our tasks by constructed the graphic
organizer for each of the literary genres which included short stories, poems and
literary devices.

For the next task given, my group members and I were required to identify
the literary devices used in each of the text provided. My group was given the
story entitled The Doll, written by Paul Gallico. In order to carry out this task, my
group members and I had read and understood the literary devices. We had
applied the literary devices that we mastered to analysis the story “The Doll”. In
the meanwhile, we also performed the same way as we analysis another text
which the poem is entitled “The Thought Fox”. My group members and I were
holding several discussions to do this task. At the end of discussion, we were
able to identify the literary devices such as setting, theme, characters, plot and
so on. I realized that I knew more about the literary devices as I doing this
coursework. In fact, while doing this task given, I was not only able to learn more
knowledge but I also learnt to cooperate and tolerate with my group members.

For the following task, my group members and I were required to create a
short story for primary school students using our new found knowledge. We were
encountered with some difficulties when doing this task because we had to
concern quite many aspects. We need to present the story line in an interesting
way so that we can attract the primary student’s attention to read. Moreover, we
have to draw the colourful picture which suited with the story lines. No doubt, the
way we organized the story as a story book also included in the aspects that we
concerned. I felt happy because my group members and I were produced a quite
interesting story the outlook of the story book is attractive too. During this task, I
learnt the skills of writing a short story, the skills of drawing picture and many
else. I had applied the literary devices that I learnt into the short story I produced.

Undeniable, this project coursework could enhance my understanding of


various literary genres. I noticed that I had improved my thinking skills and
creativity throughout this project coursework especially during the part of writing
short story. As I finished this coursework, I found that I was more confidence
towards myself in learning English. As far as I know, confidence could be gained
through experience, and yet I had proved it. In fact, I also applied communication
skills during the coursework. I was interacted with my group member well. We
learnt something new and provided ideas to each other in our discussion. We
overcome the problems together when we met a stumbling stone.

Last but not least, I felt thankful because my group’s members and I had
successfully completed the coursework given. I was sure that the knowledge and
experiences I obtained through this coursework will be the very useful things for
me to conduct an English classroom in future. As a future teacher, it is very
important for us to master all the literature knowledge so that we can conduct an
English classroom orderly and effectively and the students also can get the
maximum benefits in learning science.
