Mark the position of the old tube, with a permanent marker.

This helps to install the new tube close to where it should be.

Disconnect cooler hoses
• To disconnect cooler hose, put heat exchanger at
7’oclock position
– (if fluid leaks it will be to the bottom of the gantry)

• To remove the Heat exchanger, put it at 5 o’clock

position
• Dry connector ends
– Connectors may corrode if left wet and then fail to work

• When re-installing do not push Heat exchanger all

the way in. Gantry will not be able to rotate.

(slide tube a
little out)

11
X-ray tube replacement
• Move the tube to 90º (or 270º) position.
• Remove the relevant patient positioning laser assy.
• If tube on 270º: Remove the L/R alignment bracket from tube mounting plate.
• Mount the connection-plate for the Tube-replacement-cart
to the gantry.
• Mount the tube-supporting-base to the cart.
• Connect the cart to the connection-plate.
• Adjust the cart height to the tube position.
• Slide the tube on the tube-supporting-base.
• Make sure you have disconnected
the Ref detector
• Move the base backwards on the cart,
lower the cart, disconnect the cart.
• Change tube, follow procedure backwards.

X-ray tube F/B alignment.
• Front/Back alignment is done with Polaroid film
(Type 52 or 400).
• Put the couch-top just above the dome cover (lower than
normal).
• Put the film on the couch and make a scan with 120kV,
150mA, 2 mm, 1sec, M field.
– (Film on couch will minimize film movement caused by rotation).

16
X-ray tube F/B alignment 1/2
MultiSlice:without use of film
c With this method we use a 4x0.5mm X-ray beam on the
detector switched to 4x1mm (if row 1 and 4 give the same
values as row 2 and 3 → use detector 4x 2mm)
d The 2mm beam which is in practice more than 2 will in this
way also partly expose Row 1 and 4 .
e The amount of signal on Row 1 and 4 determines the tube
position.
f When the signal on Row 1 equals 4 the alignment perfect.

X-ray tube F/B alignment 2/2
MultiSlice:without use of film

c Warm-up the tube to 50% OLP

d Make a scan in DCA using :
120kV, 50mA, 1sec, SF, 4x0.5 slit, 4x1(or 4x2) slice
width
e Change pre-processing to : through, decode, offset
f Use Calc(scan data) : channel 438-458 → All.
g Compare signal from Row 1 with 4 and move
(about 17.000)
the tube until values are equal within approx. 500 counts.
(Row1 is at the front)

X-ray tube F/B alignment: screws

19
X-ray tube L/R alignment.
• Use a pin-phantom (PX16-56067 Gr.3)
• Align the pin-phantom (Must be centered)
– horizontally with 90 º Scano (check with square ROI)
– vertically with 0º Scano (check with square ROI)
– center the pin using a FOV of 40mm (check with
centered circle ROI)

20
X-ray tube L/R alignment.
• Use L/R alignment software
– (adjust SF by tube shift, correct LF by software)
– Use Scan Time : 0.75 sec.

X-ray tube alignment.
• Refer to figure 1.7.3-4 in the Service Manual for
the correct bolts to loosen.
’ If L/R alignment is difficult (tube does not
move), loosen also the middle F/B bolts.
(sometimes all F/B bolts must be loosened)
’ L/R alignment program → Gantry Power OFF
→ Move Tube → Gantry Power ON → make 1
rotation by KGTS Maintenance Panel
(otherwise: L/R alignment program: hang-up)

Tube change Notes:
• Check tube anode rotation by sound or by touch
before exposure!
• System checks for over mA current flow to servo not current in
all three phases.
• With a faulty phase connection current will still flow in two
phases and no error indicated
• In the future system will check current limits
– Rotor cable may be misaligned
• (insert with care)
– Rotor cable may have a broken connection
• Do not push very hard on heat exchanger
connectors without supporting them. They can
break internally
25
CXB-750: HV-connector
• Insert HV-connector carefully
– HV-connector has no key (as normal x-
ray tubes).
– feel pins entering connector
– Do not insert and rotate
• Do not apply too much grease
– Apply grease sparingly on sides only
– Silicone grease is only to allow cable
to slide in
– It may result in a cracked receptacle
• Tighten down connector all the way
– Tighten in star pattern
– If cable does not have 4mm of
compression pack with silicone grease
until you can replace cable

26
Tube change Notes:
• Following replacement
– If adjust for 80kV and 100kV
• See If adjustment
– Season tube
• From menu (using menu there is a 30min wait until
SF scans, system has not hung up)
• From laptop SF scans must be done with gantry
rotation
– Check all If’s
– F/B alignment (while tube is cooling)
– L/R alignment (while tube is cooling)
