1. a) List the assum ptions of Winkler- Bach formula applied to curved beams

4. a) A long beam of wood with a cross sectionlOOmm wide by 200mm deep rests on a soil
bed having a spring constants of 4.5N/mm2 The modulus of elasticity of wood is
10 5kN/mm2. The wooden beam supports a uniformly distributed load of 36kN/m 15
extending over a length of 3m. Calculate the maximum values of deflection, flexure
and shear stresses in the beam and the maximum pressure under the beam

5. A beam of T-section (flange: 100mmx20mm: web. 150mmx10mm) is 2.5metres in


length and is simply supported at the ends. It carries a load of 3.2kN inclined at 20° to
