High school versus College
(Compare and Contrast)
High school and college are stepping stones in one’s life. There are vast
differences between the two and both have different environments and especially the
level of academic responsibilities, time management and scheduling, as well as the
methods that are used in learning. Many individuals are able to make the transitions
from high school to college easily, while there are others that find the transition into
college somewhat challenging and hard to adjust to. In the level of academic
responsibilities there are major differences such as the responsibilities that is placed
during high school, it is more carefree, whereas in college it is more complex. Students
who make transition from high school into college have difficulty adjusting because
many are not used to being on their own nor their new environment. Unlike in high
school that you can count on your parents and your teachers to guide you in setting the
priorities and responsibilities. It is entirely different story when one does enter into
college.
In college, you have to set your own priorities and your own responsibilities.
There are many variables and opinions related to education alone, that many students
struggle such as the increase of workload or course load, advanced classes and
responsibilities. However, entering into college is a choice as in college you become the
director of your future. As a college student you will be the one to choose your own
schedule such as the time and the subject, pick classes at the times you want to take
and you can control on how many subjects you would like to take, be it overload or
under load unlike in high school that the schedule is already fixed.
High school and college learning have significant similarities and differences but
in reality, it is a required step to towards step on success for most of the people. Some
people find success without entering college and some extremely successful after
dropping out and some after taking college. In high school, you may be a morning
person or night person is not a problem at all since there are also classes in the evening
unlike in college, classes are only based on the fixed schedule, may it be in the morning
or in the evening so you cannot really choose as to whether you would be a student at
night unlike in high school.
The grades in high school are determined by most of the assigned work given to
the students, while in college not all assignments are graded. Scores on tests and major
papers provide most of the grade for the course.
From childhood to adulthood, high school allows you to gain a sense of what it
will be like to bean adult. On the other hand, college allows you to fully take ownership
of your time, responsibilities and who you want to become. As long as you are able to
stay on track of the goal at hand, you will be just fine. In college, balance is the key.
Work a lot, have little fun.
