Praxis Core Exam Analysis

The Praxis Core Exam is a set of exams in where all of Nevada Education, Early

Childhood Education students must pass before being accepted into their bachelors level

programs at UNLV, NSC, or UNR. As stated in the previous sentence, you need to pass

these exams to be able to continue with your bachelor's program at UNLV, NSC, or UN$.

The scores that you need to get on each test are as followed, Reading requires a passing

score of 156, Writing requires a passing score of 162, and Math requires a passing score

of 150.

Before taking the practice Praxis Core Exam, I looked briefly at the study guides

that were provided for me. I took a look at the practice questions from ETS, but I didn't

know what I was getting myself into. Honestly, I didn’t give myself enough time to

prepare for the practice tests. I knew some of the material that would be given on the

exams, so I assumed that I would be fine without actually studying for a significant

amount of time. As you can see by my test results, I needed to give myself more time to

study the material before taking these practice tests.

The results for Reading, Writing, and Math are as followed. In Reading, I scored

in the 43% range, which means that I wouldn’t be able to pass the official Praxis Core

exam. Significant improvement is needed to be able to pass Reading on the official exam.

In Writing, I scored in the 55% range, which means that I wouldn’t be able to pass the

official Praxis Core exam. Significant improvement is needed to be able to pass Writing

on the official exam. In Math, I scored in the 40% range, which means that I wouldn’t be

able to pass the official Praxis Core exam. Significant improvement in Math is needed as

well to be able to pass the official exam.

I plan on taking the official Praxis Core Exam in Summer 2019. Taking these

practice exams has shown me that I need to give myself a significant amount of time to

study in each area (reading, writing, math). To help prepare myself for these exams, I

have bought a study book that focuses on each of the sections. I’ve recently been

accepted into NSC and have learned that they provide study guides for each section on

the Praxis Exam with step-by-step solutions for each question. Knowing that these tools

are provided for me through school will only push me to study harder to be able to pass

each section on the exam on the first try. The official Praxis Exam is not one that I want

to have to retake, so I will be using all of the tools that have been provided for me to

prepare myself.
