SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Recommendations For Your Safety

INSTRUCTION LEAFLET - SAFETY

FOREWORD

1. This brochure has been drawn up in order for LAM (Air Marrel Loading Platform)
users to consider the safety aspect. It complements the leaflets “Instructions - Use” and
“Instructions - Maintenance” that correspond to your LAM.

2. After reading through the explanatory leaflet and the instructions for use of your LAM,
familiarise yourself with how your equipment functions.

3. Get to know its possibilities, its limitations and, in particular, the space it requires for
its full range of movements. Carry out manoeuvres with the highest regard for safety.

4. Users must be trained to operate and manoeuvre the equipment (a training course
leading to a recognised qualification or accreditation complying with the internal
regulations of the site or of the client).
The user must be familiar with the dimensional and functional characteristics of the
different types of aircraft door that he is called upon to open or close.

This training can, at your request, be undertaken by our customer service department.

5. A suitable level of knowledge of English terms is necessary for obvious reasons of

safety.

6. As well as the regulations in force on your site of operations (airport, freight zone, etc.)
observe the load restrictions imposed by the manufacturer. These restrictions are
indicated on the lifting components of the equipment (see leaflet “Instructions - Use”).

7. We remind you that our machines conform to the requirements of the

“Machines Directive” 89/392/EC of the 14 June 1989 modified by the directives
91/368/EC of the 21 June 1991, 93/44/EC of the 14 June 1993 and 93/68/EC of the 22
July 1993.

8. The people responsible for the runway are required to take the precautionary measures
provided for by the regulations that affect them (Airport Handling Manual edited by
the International Air Transport Association “IATA”, etc.).

INSTRUCTION LEAFLET - SAFETY
2 - Maintenance & Repairs

Your LAM must be serviced or repaired regularly, or if you have reported a fault.

We would like to remind you:

⇒ that the maintenance or the repairs must always be carried out by trained and
qualified personnel;

⇒ not to work on a machine that is in use, even if the operation seems simple to
you and seems to involve no danger (lubrication, etc.);

⇒ that the mobile sections of the LAM, platform and walkway, must be
absolutely immobilised by the metal cross struts supplied with the equipment
before undertaking a maintenance operation;

⇒ that the chassis must be immobilised with wedges or cross struts made of metal
or sound wood whose cross-section and dimensions are sufficient to avoid any
risk of jamming or crushing. DON’T IMPROVISE WHEN WEDGING;

⇒ that the safety switches (platform mounted dual safety stopping mechanism,
indicating that jacks or supports have come out) must not be operated manually
once the machine is in use;

⇒ not to defeat the safety end stops;

⇒ that these end stops and switches must not be deactivated, your safety depends
on them;

⇒ that operations must be carried out on a flat and stable surface;

⇒ to take precautions so that the controls cannot be activated while you are
working on the equipment (disconnect an open battery, put up a warning sign,
take the ignition key out and put it in your pocket, etc.);

⇒ to be careful if several workmen are busy on the same equipment: someone has
to direct their actions;

⇒ if you are working under cover, make sure that the height available is
sufficient;

⇒ not to try and seal a leak with your hand, oil under pressure is dangerous;

⇒ before working on the hydraulic system, to make sure that the motor has been
completely stopped;

NIS-VGB010206 (171006) - 31/01/2008 Page 5

INSTRUCTION LEAFLET - SAFETY
2 - Maintenance & Repairs (continued)

⇒ to release the pressure in the hydraulic circuit (dissipation of the residual energy) by
following the procedure laid down in the maintenance manual;

⇒ not to try to tighten up the nuts, the seals and the joints that are leaking when the
circuit is under pressure;

⇒ to allow the hydraulic circuit to cool off before working on it even for a simple oil
change;

⇒ to allow the motor to cool off before working on it: watch out, you risk getting
burnt;

⇒ when working on a running motor not to wear loose clothing and to look out for
parts that are turning (fan) and belts;

USE PROTECTIVE GLOVES

⇒ when topping up, draining or changing the oil, to follow the procedure in the
maintenance manual;

⇒ that the hydraulic circuit must be kept clean, use the filter when refilling the
reservoir;

⇒ not to forget to tighten up the different closure devices of the circuit carefully;

⇒ to check the tares, use appropriate manometers that are in excellent condition.
Follow the procedure in the maintenance manual;

⇒ that you must never, under any circumstances disturb the tare settings of the safety
stops, you risk seriously damaging your equipment and causing accidents;

⇒ to observe the tightening torque settings recommended in the maintenance manual;

⇒ to lubricate the places indicated in your leaflet “Instructions - Use” regularly and
after each time you clean them;

⇒ not to do any welding on the vehicle without having first disconnected the leads
from the terminals of the batteries and without having familiarised yourself with the
manufacturer’s instructions, watch out for electronic devices;

⇒ when you have finished what you are doing, to check that no objects or equipment
remain on the LAM (tools, spare parts, instructions, etc.);
