What’s Required
Many people want to become successful. A few even expect it will happen. But a very small percentage are
willing to make the behavioral changes and day-to-day adjustments to actually make success a reality.
By creating a time study of one week of your life – broken down into 15 minute increments – you’ll gain
insight into exactly what you’re doing, how you can reapply that time, what outcomes you’re creating and how
you can create entirely new outcomes in your life.
Steps:
1. Keep physical copies of the time study with you at all times. If you have a digital version, download the
time study and print off enough copies for your entire week.
2. Every 15 minutes, write down what you’re doing. This could be a task, activity, chore, thinking process,
meeting or anything else you’re doing at that time. Try to be as specific as possible.
3. At the end of each day, review the time study to see exactly where you have spent your time, whether
it aligns with your expectations, and what you can adjust for the next day.
4. At the end of 7 days, review all your time study sheets to identify when your time was not optimized,
the repetitive tasks or low-impact activities that you could offload or avoid. These items will provide
you with the greatest opportunities to free up your time to make new and bigger outcomes a reality.
5. Finally, in the column labeled “Focus,” mark each 15 minute increment with a S, T, SC, or F as follows
(NOTE: not every activity will be marked):
a. S – Time focused on STRATEGIC activities in your business
b. T – Time focused on TACTICAL activities in your business
c. SC – Time dedicated to SELF CARE (exercise, meal planning, meditation, etc.)
d. F – Time dedicated to FAMILY

1. Enter the Start Date and End Date of your Time Study.
2. Review your Time Study document and add up the hours you spent on Strategic, Tactical, Self Care, or
Family activities for the entire time period. Enter those numbers in the corresponding boxes in the chart
under “Focus Hours,” and then total them at the bottom of the chart next to “Total.”
3. Calculate how many hours you worked during the entire time period. Enter that number in the box under
“Total Hours Worked.” This will apply to calculations for each GPS number.
4. Individually, divide each number under “Total Strategic Hours” by your “Total Hours Worked” to
calculate your “% Focus” (as seen in the example below for Growth: 8 Total Strategic Hours divided by 70
Total Hours Worked results in 0.11, or 11% focus on Strategic Growth for the week).
Strategic 18 10%
Tactical 45 26%
Family 13 8.9%
Sleep 50 29.76%
Commute 10 5.95%
Meals 24 16.07%
