The Fiat 682 was the first truly versatile truck and tractor trailer, produced by Fiat Commercial
Vehicles since 1952 to 1988. This new model was the world's most popular truck,
The Fiat 682, called the king of Africa was available in 4x2 only, had the engine in-line 6-cylinder
Fiat 203 to 11 548 cm3, with a maximum torque at only 900 rpm.
Designed to meet the needs of all extreme missions, including off-road, for loads from 14 to 44
tons, this truck has carved a reputation unmatched in ruggedness and reliability.
In Africa, there are still those vehicles that are produced locally or imported from Italy with more
than 10 million km of driving done.

THE CAB
The driver’s cab i s extremely comfortable: the design with low engine hood creates a huge
internal space with the maximum height of the cabin (2200mm), which allows the driver an easy
life on board, provides an ideal environment for moving around
and relaxing, night and day. Moreover, the large windscreen allows optimum visibility, the steering
wheel is fully adjustable and all the controls can be easily identified and quickly reached to allow
safe control of the vehicle at all times.

The deflectors are especially designed to optimize the
aerodynamic of the cab.

Deflectors are directing rain, mud etc. in order to keep


the windows, mirrors and door handles clean.

Furthermore the deflectors reduce air resistance and


noise

 4 points cab suspension, with optional air suspension
or spring suspension

 “Diagonal” shock absorbing spring, especially


designed for rough roads, more sensitive for bumping

 Silent block for engine and cab are made in rubber to


filter vibrations and noise

The cab tilting system is hydraulic and can be operated manually or electrically without
opening the front grille, which is really time saving.

The large tilting angle (60 degrees) provides enough space for maintenance operations.

 Three foot steps, correspond to max. height of 383 mm.

 Steps are covered with antiskid material, reducing


potential risks.

 Upper foot step is wider to make easier turning around


and seat in the cab.

Central stack integrates the secondary commands and the features that enhance the comfort of
the cab both while driving and during the resting hours.

Brand new A/C air duct system, with a smooth outlet
design, maximizing the effect of A/C
Especially the air outlet down the knees and inside
the door ensures more comfort.
Highly effective A/C system, with a max. cooling

The air conditioner is much quieter thanks to


strengthened leak tightness in gas circuit connection

The NEW 682 is powered by Iveco Fiat Powertrain Cursor 9 engine setting a new standard
of reliability and performance for the customers. Equipped with the latest generation common rail
fuel injection system, it generatesmaximum torque availability in a wide operative range,
Delivering optimum elasticity and top driving performance in any conditions.
At the same time, it offers the most competitive standards in fueleconomy and low maintenance
costs, extending engine o i l change cycles. Moreover, the compliancy with stringent European
Euro3 emission levels guarantees excellent environment friendliness.

Common rail system
Engine: common rail injection system X
The common rail system is equipped with a special
high pressure pump, therefore fuel is always under the
injection pressure (calculated by the ECU) at the
electric injector intake port.
The solenoid valve of the injector is controlled by the
ECU.

Main characteristics:
 Separate the generation of injection pressure and
the injection itself.
 Max injection pressure is 1600 bar .
 The fuel injector could inject flexibly for a few times
and the injection pressure could be adjusted at any
rotating speed and load.
 Reduce vibration and noise of the engine with a
cleaner displacement and lower oil consumption
Turbocharger

The turbocharger that equip Cursor 9 engine 380
HP is a fixed geometry turbine with waste-gate
valve: the best compromise between simplicity
and performance:
To avoid a too high pressure at high engine
speeds, an overboost pressure limiting valve is
placed before the turbine (waste-gate).

The valve allow the exhaust gases to pass


directly to the exhaust pipe, reducing the
overboost pressure and in consequence the
turbine speed.

Engine brake

This decompression engine brake can be controlled by:
 Steering column lever
 Brake pedal
 Cruise Control

At the end of the compression stroke (picture C), when nearly


reaches TDC, a special device will open the exhaust air valve
slightly to release the compression pressure inside the cylinder
(picture D).
Engine brake is a an assist function of slow down, which only
works when the engine is over 800 rpm.
When the engine brakes, it will not inject fuel, which improves
also the economy.

The lever on the right hand side of the steering
column activates the engine brake.
On the dashboard is available also an electrical
switch for activation.

technology synchronized 12-speed gearbox,

The driveline is equipped with hub reduction on rear

The New 682 adopts an high tensile steel chassis that is available in two versions:

Heavy: with a single high performing chassis and parabolic suspensions destined to missions
where low kerbweight is a key request.

Extra Heavy: with a double chassis (8+5 mm in tractor version and 8+8 mm in chassis cab)
combined with semielliptic suspensions for the most demanding applications.

Braking system
The front and rear axles braking systems have two separate pneumatic circuits.

An air cut-off braking system acts on the braking compartment on the intermediate and
rear axles

ABS ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) is foreseen as option.


Cruise control
Switching-on the cruise control when running on a express way, 682 would control
accelerator automatically according to the set speed.

This reduces the driver’s fatigue due to long-time driving and allow to reduce fuel
consumption.

Can be activated for speed over 30km/h.

682 vehicles have passed in total more than 2


million km road test, in all type of road and all
wheater conditions.

The fatigue tests run under various climatic


conditions like extremely cold or terrible heat,
storm, sand, rain and snow, has reached the
highest standard levels.
Each component had been tested also
separately to give the right level of reliability.

For example 500,000 bench tests were


performed on axles according to the extremely
strict European qualitative standards .

Iveco 682 is sold through over than 95 Sale points in


the AME area.
Furthermore it is assisted by network of specialized
workshops with more than 135 Service points.

The genuine parts are managed by the efficient “Iveco


Parts” division, that take care of the distribution of
Iveco genuine parts for the whole range, including the
Iveco 682.
