SIEMENS C&I Proposal Engineer

Job Responsibilities

1. Understand system architecture used in O&G Industry

For turbomachine control system, often two separate, independent control systems are typically
requested/ specified. As per IEC/ISO-61511, Safeguarding function for SIL loop rated more than 1, a
dedicated and independent Safeguarding Instrumented System (SIS) shall be applied so as to bring down
the risk factor to acceptable level. With this requirement, control and safeguarding functions shall be
separated at loop level, ie separate sensors/ transmitters, controllers and final element (valves and
vanes).

Hence typically two separate controllers are used. For Siemens, typically SCAUT package is specified
(typically 400H for control and 400HF for safeguarding/SIS). Other direct competitors typically provide
different philosophy, ie Specialized Anti-surge control solutions only ie Compressor Control Corporation
(CCC) and various system integrators specify for Allen Bradley Logix 5000 family for the same purpose.
Safeguarding function then falls under Customer Plant Safeguarding system ie Plant SIS or part of Plant
ICSS system.

Regardless of the package specified (based on Customer request ie ASC with/ without safeguarding
control system, for O&G industry redundancy is a must for equipment uptime requirement. This
includes DC power supply, Controller/ PLC CPU, I/O card and communication card, typically Modbus
TCP/IP which transfer data to and from Plant Control System (DCS & SIS). PLC local Ethernet network
typically is restricted for PLC CPU redundancy synchronization and for some advanced controllers, Auto-
learning feature. This network which most often set at 192.161.1.1 is separated and not connected to
Plant DCS network which has dedicated
