INTRODUCTION
Qom is a city in Iran. It lies 156 kilometers (97 mi) by road southwest of Tehran and is the
capital of Qom Province. At the 2006 census, its population was 957,496, in 241,827 families. It
is situated on the banks of the Qom River.

Qom is considered holy by Shi`a Islam, as it is the site of the shrine of Fatema Mæ'sume, sister
of Imam `Ali ibn Musa Rida (Persian Imam Reza, 789–816 AD). The city is the largest center for
Shi'a scholarship in the world, and is a significant destination of pilgrimage.

Piligrams and tourism has long been a major foreign exchange earner for many cities in Iran like
Qom, Tehran and other cities, and is now developing very fast. The city of Qom is a major
attraction for piligram and Islamic studies so it has now brought a huge potential of source of
income after the Islamic revolution generation. Thus, a well designed infrastructure is a
prerequisite for receiving, accommodating and processing these visitors which can be the basis
for the development of the piligram city.

AIM
• The main aim is to create a build environment which would reflect the traditional and
contemporary architecture of Qom,Iran.

• To generate a vocabulary and design temperament of the project for architectural


expression that will reflect the urban character of that place.

• To design as per vernacular architecture of the city Qom.

NEED OF PROJECT
• In the present scenario of globalization & commercialization, city of Qom has grown
rapidly in the recent year. Although the city has grown very well in the recent years in
terms of the infrastructures required, but there has been a continuous need of a hotel,
offices, shopping centres which could incorporate world class level of accommodation &
corporate offices.

• The city attracts thousands of piligrams and tourists every year from all over the world
because of the Holy Shrine Masooma(a.s), jamkaran mosque and other heritage
buildings so when the piligrams visits the city ,they get the perfect glimpse of the
spiritual infrastructure of the city but the thing they suffer most is the accommodation

problem where they can live and enjoy their journey . Moreover, it would generate
nice revenue for the city as well.

SCOPE AND OBJECTIVE OF PROJECT


 To develop a effective spaces in the office and hotel which could becomes a perfect
place of living , meeting , as well as recreation for the people in the city

 To analyze and give solutions to the problems that the city & the piligram are facing in
terms of the accommodation and offices & their effective utilization as well.

 To develop the facilities & the amenities at the office cum hotel complex which could
serve the people in the most functional way & also to create a perfect ambience, so that
people tends to visit more & more there.

 To develop more & more revenue for the city.

 SITE
Site is located at the sadar blouvered opposite to the Holy shrine Masooma(a.s) Qom.
The site irregular polygon in shape and is surrounded by mixed landuse and commercial
buildings having 15m wide road in front of it.

Site area=5.5 acres Approx.

METHODOLOGY

• Live & virtual case studies

• Site visits & collecting information about local conditions and environment of the city,&
then finally reaching to site synthesis.

• Data collection & research work related to the project

Analysis and conclusion based on the observations made during the above mentioned research,
and thus evolving the concept, and further enhancing the design, which can be sustainable &
can solve the required commercial needs of the city.
