 How does the cultural background of learners influence the beliefs

about the language learning?

The beliefs that students have about learning and teaching a foreign language
facilitate or hinder these processes.
These beliefs can be conjectures that students make in relation to the aspects
involved in such learning

These beliefs can become obstacles to learning a language, if they have been
formed as a result of negative experiences.

 How should teachers deal with culturally based differences between

teachers 'and learners’ beliefs?
I think that we should do topics oriented to diverse interests.
When you do the planning on a topic you can include several resources to deal
with it. There will be those who show more interest for example with audiovisual
resources etc.
 Oxford proposed 6 learning strategies to make learning easier, faster
and more enjoyable. Mention them and write for each one example of
your own experience.
Oxford (1990) identifies six general types of learning strategies:
1. Memory strategies, which help students to store and retrieve
information.
2. Cognitive strategies, which enable learners to understand and produce
new language.
3. Compensation strategies, which allow learners to communicate
despite deficiencies in their language knowledge.
4. Metacognitive strategies, which allow learners to control their own
learning through organizing, planning, and evaluating.
5. Affective strategies, which help learners gain control over their emotions,
attitudes, motivations, and values.
6. Social strategies, which help learners interact with other people.

Mention them and write for each one example of your own experience.

• Memory strategies:

I think I learn more when I combine images with sounds, when I make a list of
words and look for the meaning of each new word, review what was learned.

• Cognitive strategies:

When I began to study English, the songs and dictations helped me to find the
words I needed in each of the spaces and this helped me a lot to develop my
listening and learn new words. I did these activities after each class.
We also work in groups, where we practiced speaking with a dialogue with two or
three members of the group.

• Compensation strategies:

we had to learn all the synonyms of each word learned.

• Metacognitive strategies:

we must have clear at the beginning of each course a study plan, which sets the
goals and steps to achieve the goals of the course.

• Affective strategies and

We could apply this strategy when we did the practices, clarify doubts and
feedback that we had seen in each class.
• Social strategies

Cooperating with others provides a rich potential for second language learning, as
you, The Learner, cooperate with peers or cooperate with proficient people in your
chosen New Language.

in the schools we practiced English with the classmates who are in more advanced
courses and with the professors.
