CHEF

A chef is in charge of the kitchen in restaurants or other places where food is served. They watch all
activity and food preparation with any staff that would assist in the kitchen. They supervise the
preparation of food for it’s garnishing and presentation, as well as, the seasonings for a perfect taste. A
chef orders food or kitchen supplies and provides cost estimates to the employer. They monitor any
staff requirements and production schedules to be sure any services are delivered on time. A chef or
head cook needs to have knowledge of food preparation, production and processing. They need to have
knowledge of customer and personal service in order to achieve customer satisfaction. They need to be
current on public safety and security. They need skills of time management, active listening, judgement
and decision making.

Firefighter

A firefighter responds to fire and medical emergencies. They also work with hazardous materials and
clean up chemical or oil spills to control them. Firefighters are usually first responders. Therefore, they
may work closely with police personal and additional emergency crew members as they arrive on site.
Along with learning how to fight fires, they would also be trained to provide medical assistance.
Firefighters typically work at a fire station when not on an emergency. They sleep and eat there and
remain on call during shifts of possibly up to 24 hours. The work is considered dangerous and long hours
are often required. A firefighter must be physically fit in order to lift, climb, move heavy objects, run and
balance. They must be able to get important information through strong listening and communication
skills and be quick to recognize a potential problem.

Dentist

A dentist provides care for a patient’s teeth, gums, and oral health. They provide a number of services.
Dentists repair fractured teeth, fill cavities, remove tooth decay, straighten teeth, place sealants, whiten
patient’s teeth, and educate on proper oral hygiene. They also must diagnose what is going on with a
patient’s mouth so they read X-rays as well and look for potential jaw problems, gum disease, or
cavities. A dentist uses different equipment and technologies to do their job, such as laser and digital
scanners, X-ray machines, probes, drills, and other tools. They may also oversee others in the dental
office such as internals, dental assistants, and dental hygienists. Some dentists prefer to specialize in
other areas of dentistry such as oral pathology, orthodontics, or pediatrics.

Engineer
A civil engineer supervises and designs substantial construction projects. They maintain, construct, and
operate these construction projects. These projects could be include airports, buildings, bridges, sewage
treatment, or systems for water supply. A civil engineer oversees, designs, and plans the construction
and maintenance of building structures and/or facilities like irrigation projects, power plants, bridges,
and other sites. They inspect work sites to ensure conformance to safety and design specifications and
monitor progress of the project. They give estimates of cost materials and quantities or the project site’s
maintenance. They can provide the technical advice needed for structural repairs, program
modifications or regarding design. A civil engineer would determine the strength and adequacy of steel,
foundations, asphalt, or concrete by testing materials or soils.

Bus Driver

A bus driver transports various people to and from their destination safely. Many bus drivers work with
a specific population. For example, you could be a school bus driver, or drive special needs clients. Other
bus drivers may work for a retirement home and transport the elderly to doctor’s appointments our fun
outings. Then, other bus drivers may work for a city and provide public transportation around town. Bus
drivers operate a large vehicle that holds multiple people. Depending on the type of bus you drive, your
tasks may differ. Ultimately however, you would stop at the appropriate locations according to a set
schedule. Along with making sure you are driving safely, you must also ensure your passengers are
behaving and not placing others or themselves at risk as well. You may need to give warnings for anyone
standing or moving while your bus is en route or give warnings for those passengers disrupting others.
