3. Course description:
This course include the following topics :
Atomic structure, classification of materials as insulators, conductors and semiconductors, N-
Type and P-Type semiconductors, the diode, biasing the diode, i-v characteristic of a diode, diode
models, half wave rectifier, full wave rectifier, power supply filters and regulators, diode limiting
and clamping circuits, the zener diode and its applications, other special purpose diodes, BJT
structure, basic BJT operation, BJT characteristics and parameters, BJT as an amplifier, common
emitter, common collector, common base, BJT as a switch, the dc operating point, voltage divider
bias, other bias methods.
4. General Course Objectives
On successful completion of this course the student will be able to achieve the following
objectives:
1- To understand the construction and operation of diodes, Bipolar junction transistors, field
effect transistors and operational amplifier.
2- To construct , analyze, design , some of diode applications
3- To Construct , analyze, design , some of zener diode Applications .
4- To analyze and study the construction and the operation of Some of BJT applications such
common emitter, common Base, common collector and using BJT as a switch.
5- To calculate some parameters of diodes, BJT , FETs , and Op/amp.
