I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding of how Anglo-American literature
and other text types serve as means of enhancing the self; also how to
use processing, assessing, summarizing information, word derivation
and formation strategies, appropriate word order, punctuation marks and
interjections to enable him/her to participate actively in a speech choir.
B. Performance Standards The learner actively participates in a speech choir through using effective
verbal and non-verbal strategies based on the following criteria: Focus,
Voice, Delivery, Facial Expressions, Body Movements/ Gestures and
Audience Contact.

1. Reading Comprehension Passage: Count your chickens!
Activity
One day, a farmer and his son Noah took some live chickens to the market.
After a while, the farmer gave Noah a crate full of live chickens and said,
“Take these chickens to the truck and I will meet you there in 30 minutes.”
On his way to the parking lot, Noah tripped and dropped the crate. The
crate broke open and the chickens ran off in all different directions. Noah
chased after the chickens. He scooped up all the birds he could reach and
returned them to the crate. “I hope I found them all,” thought Noah, “My
father won’t be happy if the chickens are missing.” His father was waiting
by the truck. In a quiet voice, Noah said, “Dad, the chickens got loose, but
I was able to find all ten of them.” Noah’s father smiled and said, “Nice
work, son. There were only six chickens in the crate I gave you!”

As they go along with reading the research about the literary period
assigned to them, they also need to fill- out a blank outline for them to
easily understand what the period is all about.
7. Continuation of the discussion After 7 minutes of reading and outlining, each group will choose a
(2nd formative assessment) representative to share the group’s information to their group. That way,
each group will have an idea about the chronological order of the 5 literary
periods.
8. Developing mastery PRESENTATION OF THE JIGSAW ACTIVITY:

After the rotation, each representative will now proceed in front and try to
arrange the literary period assigned to them, chronologically. They will
have to fix the timeline of Anglo Literature.
