How to Decrease Poverty in Indonesia

“People be starving and people be killing for food

With that crack and that spoon.
But the rich stupid people, they stay eating good
Dropping wage living good.”

(Rich Brian – Dat $tick)

Good morning

Assalamu’alaikum, Wr. Wb.

First of all, let’s pray and thanks to Allah SWT who has given us mercies
and blessings so we can attend in this program without any troubles and
obstacles. Next, I would like to say thank you for Kartikatama Vocational
High School committee who have given me opportunity to deliver this
speech today.

Honorable ones, the judges of the speech contest, my friends, and the
participants. At this golden opportunity allow me, Abdee Firman al Rasyid,
to stand in front of you all to deliver a speech entitled "How to Decrease
Poverty in Indonesia"

Ladies and Gentlemen...

You must be wondering what I said at the beginning of the speech, right?
That is a piece of rap lyrics created by Indonesian rapper Rich Brian who
describes poverty in our beloved country. Poverty such as starving
people, people who killing each other for food, the common usage of
crack cocaine in the slums of Jakarta, and irresponsible people who drop
the wages and live well without feeling guilty.

Ladies and Gentlemen...

What have in your mind at any time that you hear the word "poverty"?

(Bring the poverty picture to the audiences)

Surely you immediately imagine people on the periphery, people without

food, beggars, and sometimes feel sad and concerned about them and
because of that... We need to decrease it.
Poverty is the greatest social problems in the world. The word “poverty”
itself has a meaning, which is the condition of having income and/or
wealth so low, resulting in a minimum standard of living condition.

Just so you know, by the time you listen to my speech right now, there
will have been millions of people that are starving in the world. By the
time you begin lunch, someone, somewhere in the world will have died
because of not having food.

Poverty in Indonesia is a widespread issue though in recent years the

official numbers show a declining trend.

According to The World Bank, many people live just above the poverty
line and are vulnerable to falling into poverty. Around 28 million
Indonesians lived with less than IDR 293,000 a month, is it really cheap,
yeah?

Did you know? Over half of the poor each year were not poor the year
before. A quarter of Indonesians suffer from poverty at least once in a
three years period.

Social Minister Idrus Marham said that, "The social problems we face are
very complex, so there needs to be a partnership between the
government and the community”

As Mr. Marham said, the role of the government and the individual itself is
also very much needed in reducing poverty in Indonesia.. The following
are ways that can be done to overcome the problem of poverty:

1. Expanding employment

The government must provide more employment in certain regions,

where the region is currently short of jobs. The government can build
large industries, companies, and so on which of course requires labor.
With sufficient employment, a person can work to meet the daily needs of
his family members.

2. Providing free educational assistance or education subsidies

In terms of education, the government has held an educational assistance

program in the form of nine-year compulsory education for poor people.
In addition, the government also needs to provide tuition fees for
students whose parents feel less well off. With that, the problem of
dropping out of school can be overcome.

3. Open your own employment

In an effort to prevent poverty, we can take the initiative to open our own
businesses, such as simple food stalls, lodging, bakeries, and so on. Of
course, if we open a business, it will require a number of workers as a
driver of our business. With that, people who are looking for work will
need work requests for us.

Ladies and Gentlemen...

From my speech today, we can conclude that poverty in Indonesia

is very alarming and to anticipate all the factors that cause the
emergence of poverty problems, the government should need to follow up
on the handling of poverty problems that exist in the surrounding
community.

Not only the government, but also the spirit, willingness and effort
that come from ourselves must also be developed in eradicating these
poverty cases.

This is the end of my speech today. I hope we can take a good

lesson from what I deliver today. I ask forgiveness for any words and
behave which are not supposed to be. Thank you for your kind attention
today. I hope it will be very useful for us.

Wabillahi taufiq wal hidayah. Wassalamu’alaikum Wr. Wb.

Have a nice day. Cheerio.
