PASS OF ALBERTINA IN CATALONIA

Hello my name is Albertina, I’m a sloth and I passed some months living
in Austria, Portugal, Finland and Netherland. In this occasion I am going
to explain the last month that I stayed in Catalonia.
I’ve been living in Sant Fruitós de Bages with some teenagers of the
high school IES Gerbert d’Aurillac. During that days in the village I
went it’s festivity. The first day, there was a concert in the night where
the catalan group Oques Grasses played. There were a lot of people and
we danced a lot. In the second day we made a “calçotada” that consist in
eating “calçots” that are a type of onions and the sauce named
“romesco”. It’s delicious!

In the night we went to see fireworks in the football pitch of the village!
In the village there were “els castellers” that are a human construction.
The most important cities in Catalonia have a group of “castellers” and
during the year they train and compete against the others to make the
best human tower.
We also danced “sardanes” that it’s a traditional dance in Catalonia
accompanied with a “cobla” an instrumental orchestra formed by 11
players with the following instruments:

 One flabiol, a type of fipple flute played with the left hand while
a tamborí, a small drum attached to the left arm of the player, is
played with the other hand.
 Four Catalan shawms – double-reed woodwinds
o Two tibles – a tible is like an oboe, but with a louder sound

o Two tenores – a tenora is a larger version of the tible

 Five brass instruments

o Two trumpets

o A trombone – often a valve-trombone

o Two fiscorns – a fiscorn is a rotary-valved baritone saxhorn with

the bell facing forward, similar in appearance to a large flugelhorn

 A string bass – originally and still often a three-string double bass.
We also went to a “correfoc”, a fire party, where people ran surrounded
by imaginary human figures and dragons with firecrackers on their
heads. They are customized
like demons.
During the weekend, we also traveled to the capital of Catalonia,
Barcelona, and I visited some famous places like “Sagrada familia”,
“Parc Güell”, “Camp Nou”, “Montjuic”, „

Finishing my stay in Catalonia I went to Montserrat that is a mountain

situated in the middle of Catalonia. It’s a special mountain because it’s
formatted by the erosion of the water. There is a monastery where
people go to pray but also to visit the place.
To celebrate our last day, we went to “La Patum”, a Unesco party
celebrated each June in Berga. It’s like “Correfoc” but more popular. A
lot of people go there!
Now, I would like to continue my amazing trip around Europe traveling
to Antalya in Turquey. See you soon„
