PAGHALAD CONTEST GUIDELINES, MECHANICS AND CRITERIA

General Guidelines:

1. The competition is open to all and shall highlight the Paghalad theme.
2. The composition of the contingent shall be within the minimum of Ten (10)
dancers, excluding instrumentalist. Should there be less than Ten (10)
dancers during actual presentation; a three (3) points shall be deducted from
the total score against any contingent who violates this provision.
3. Ritual presentation shall have a minimum of Three (3) minutes and a
maximum of Seven (7) minutes only. Three (3) points shall be deducted from
the total score against any contingent who violates this provision.
6. Recorded music or music from instruments such as electronic guitars,
piano, organ, electronic drum sets, and all other electronic instruments are
allowed.
7. Absolutely, no participant or contingent’s representative shall contact in any
way or manner any judge before and after the competition.
8. In order to preserve the non-political and democratic objectives of
Paghalad, participants are prohibited from exhibiting or manifesting acts or
gestures offensive to any person or group. In the event of any violation of this
rule, the Committee reserves the right to disallow the offending contingent to
continue further its participation in the parade.
9. All the contestants are required to have their street dancing be presented
on the designated streets by the committee.

Paghalad Contest Guidelines:

1. The dance entry must depict the Paghalad as theme.


2. Concept or theme for costume and performance are left to the discretion of the
participants based on their own interpretation of what is relevant to Paghalad.
Emphasis must be given to the concept of prayer in dance.
3. Dance steps, music, costume, props and accessories of the dance should be in
the context of the Festival.
4. Time starts once any member of the contingent move and step on the designated
entrance area likewise the time stops as soon as any member of the contingent
move and step out in the exit area.
5. The use of infants/toddlers (3 years below) and live animals sacrifices are strictly
prohibited. A three (3) point deduction from the total score shall be imposed.
6. The use of fire and other flammable materials such as fireworks or pyrotechnics
as part of the ritual are strictly prohibited. A three (3) point deduction shall be
imposed against any contingent who violates this provision.
7. The decision of the Board of Judges shall be final and unappealable. Questions or
clarifications will not be entertained after the announcement of winners.
Criteria for Judging:

Theme, Concept / Ritual 15% (Relevance to Paghalad, choice of material as to


musicality, movement qualities and expressions, clarity of message and
interpretation to dance movement).

Performance 30% (Precision and coordination, fluency, alignment, balance, focus,


projection, rhythmic and spatial interest).

Choreography 25% (Creativity and artistry of steps and formation, style and
expression.)

Costume and Props 20% (Artistic choice of color, style and use of props,
appropriate and relevant to the theme/ritual).

Audience Impact 10% (Ability to establish rapport with the audience).

Dear Youth Leader,

Barangay Panikian will be celebrating its Fiesta celebration in honor of our Patron
Saint Birhen Maria sa Mahal na kasing-kasing ni Hesus on May 29-31, 2019. To
enliven this celebration with utmost gesture of thanksgiving, Panikian Chapel
spearheads a contest termed as Paghalad, a dance presentation depicting the theme
of offering to our Patron.

In this connection, we are inviting all youth of Zone 2 Pili, Babuyan, Cabagyangan,
Ban-ban, Tag-anito, Maslog, Bacolod and Tabon-tabon for this competition which will
be held on the 30th day of May 2019 at exactly 9:00 o’clock in the morning at Panikian
Elemantary School ground.

The following cash prizes will be received:


1st - 5,000.00
2nd – 3,000.00
3rd – 2,000.00
Consolation- 800.00
