THE TRUMPET CALL 1

Our Mission: To love Jesus Christ and to share His Love

Our Vision: To be a Christian community where Christ is transforming lives
East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church Volume V Issue 25 June 23rd, 2019

Over the past two or three months, we’ve had many personnel changes in our church. Lest any
rumors get started, I’ll briefly bring everyone up to date. We have said fond farewells to Rob
Coyle, Facilities Manager, Mike Corey, Technology Support and Financial Secretary, and Jill
Teaford, Church Administrator. Mike and Jill (along with Jill’s husband, Ron) still do limited
consulting for us. Each of these persons has given many hours to help make our church a better
place and we so much appreciate their Christian discipleship and commitment!

In the area of maintenance, we have welcomed back Bob Lee, who does such a great job keeping our church
facilities very clean, for which we are most grateful. We have expanded Craig Banner’s hours so that he works
more than just Sunday mornings. He is now working on weekdays, and it is structured that though he overlaps
slightly with Bob’s schedule, the idea is to have a morning sexton (Bob) and an afternoon sexton (Craig) to help the
church function more smoothly. Staff Parish Relations has decided not to hire another facilities manager at the
present time, as Connie Moyer has agreed to step in as a volunteer property manager. She will coordinate
projects with the sextons, Trustees, Finance Team, SWAT Team, and the Church Administrator, and we greatly
appreciate the time and effort she is giving to our church’s needs!

Speaking of the Church Administrator, we now have a new one: our own Rich Poole. Rich has been volunteering
in this capacity for a number of weeks, but now it’s official that he is hired by the church for 30 hours per week.
Primary responsibilities include leading the office staff and volunteers, managing payroll and high level accounts
payable, and overseeing the successful implementation of Servant Keeper, our new church database, to name but
a few. Related to finance, we have also hired Christine Uporsky as our Financial Secretary and Accounts
Receivable manager. Like Rich, she has been volunteering in this capacity for quite some time, and we are glad to
extend her a salary for all she is doing. Also in the financial field, Bruce Osbun has been working alongside
Christine, and he will be moving over to Accounts Payable working alongside Rich Poole. If you need to email Rich
or Christine, you may now use their new church email addresses: rpoole@esumc.net and cuporsky@esumc.net
respectively.

This all might sound confusing if this is the first time you’re hearing about it, but I can truly say that we are
streamlining our administration. Rich has helped us to think more strategically about how we deploy our staff, and
one of the direct results is that this new plan will save about 5% in personnel costs from what we had been paying
previously in these various areas. When we streamline our administration, we are then able to better focus on our
mission and vision and keep making “the main thing the main thing.” One area where we are still in prayer and
discernment is our music ministry. Pauline Fox will be retiring as our Organist/Director of Traditional Worship at the
end of July, and we are actively praying God will lead the right person(s) to us. We invite your prayers as well, and
please pray for all of our newest staff members and their families! I hope to see you on Sunday.

Blessings in Christ, 1
