METHOD STATEMENT FOR INITIAL AND ROUTINE LOAD TEST
USING ROCK ANCHORING METHOD

2. Fabrication of Anchor: -

 Strands are cut to the required length. Required length is derived such that fixed length plus free
length plus extra as per girder Height. Strands are then cleaned to remove rust, oil, dust if
required. Total 17 Nos of Strand will be provided in one Rock anchor as per design.

Fixed length: -

 Fixed length will be 18.5 mtrs, which will be coated with Epoxy Painting (Resin-Araldite GY 257
and Hardener- Aradur 140 in 2: 1 ratio mixing)
 When the Epoxy coat is still sticky, quartz sand will be sprinkled over the fixed length to enhance
the bond between HTS strand and grout.
 Spacers are provided at 1.5 m c/c throughout the fixed length and at 2.5 m c/c throughout the
free length to keep sufficient space in between the strands.
 A Pre-fabricated bottom Cone will be provided at the bottom of the anchor strands for the
smoothly insertion into the anchor hole. The anchor strands clubbed together and shall be fixed
inside the bottom cone with the help of cement epoxy mortar. This will not be disturbed till the
epoxy mortar has not dried completely.

3.Anchor Homing: -

Pre-Fabricated anchors are slowly lowered in to the Bore hole. Anchors should be firmly secured at
ground level with the help of clamp until the fixed length grouting is not completed.

 Check List- Length of anchor will be verified.

4. Primary Grouting (Fixed Length Grouting)

 Primary grouting or fixed length grouting is carried out with CONBEXTRA GP-2 (FOSROC
BRAND) using water GP2 ratio of 0.18. Pre measured quantity is manually grout through HDPE
pipe with the help of Gravitational. After Completion of Grouting HDPE pipe will be slowly taken
out side.

 Check List- 1. Water GP2 ratio & Quantity of GP-2 grout to be checked.

5. Stressing of Anchor for Pile Load Test: -

 Pile Load test can be carried out only when grout has attended sufficient strength of 40 Mpa
which normally achieved in 7days to 10 days.

 Extra length of the anchor kept for jacking is cleaned. Anchor Wedges plate of 19 T 13 System is
fixed on the cable on the top of the bearing plate which is already attached with the MS girder
assembly. Anchor Wedges plate of 19 T 13 System is fixed on the cable. Anchor is then
stressed up to 5 to 10% of the design capacity using hydraulic jack of required capacity and
anchor wedges is locked in the anchor wedge plate.

METHOD STATEMENT FOR INITIAL AND ROUTINE LOAD TEST
USING ROCK ANCHORING METHOD

8. WORK METHODOLOGY OF VERTICAL LOAD TEST (COMPRESSION)

8.1 General:

As a part of foundation's quality assurance, Static Load Test is necessary to ensure the pile that was
driven could take the design load of the structure. During this test, load shall be applied on the test
pile for Initial Load test and on Working Pile for Routine Load Test, and the pile settlement under the
acting load would be recorded. As a common practice, for the Initial Load Test pile would be loaded
up to 2.5 times of the working load and for the Routine Load test it is up to 1.5 times of Working
Load, which is regarded as the Test Load of the pile.
The test load shall be applied by means of hydraulic jacks which obtains its reaction from Rock
Anchors, as per drawing.

8.2Equipment, Tools & Instruments:

The following equipment shall be required for pile testing

 Load application arrangement as per drawing

 BHO-L-002-DBL-STR-DRG-TWK-ZZ-0004-R1
 Record book for noting the reading
Anchor
Pile
8.3 Preparation of test Pile:

 The test pile shall be installed at location as per the standard piling procedure as outlined in the
piling installation methodology and as per the approved drawings of the test piles.
 The test pile shall be trimmed up to required level as shown in drawing and the top level shall be
leveled in such a way to ensure the zero gaps between the pile top and 32 mm thick MS plate.
The load shall be applied only after the concrete in the pile and pile head has achieved the
required design strength of M35.

8.4 Installation of Rock Anchors:

 The anchors are designed to take the required reaction while applying the load to the test pile.
The piles are positioned.
 The Rock Anchors shall be installed as per the standard installation method which also contains
the HTS strands. There are 17 No’s strands to be installed in the Rock Anchor.
 The total boring depth for Rock Anchors is 28.5m from GL/ mentioned in the drawings.

8.5 Test Equipment and Instruments

 The main aspects of test equipment and instruments consist of load application arrangements
and the instruments to measure the resulting movements.

8.5.1 Load Application Arrangements

 As shown in figures below, axial compression load application arrangement consists of
four Rock Anchors located on for side of a test pile. In order to minimize the interference
between the test and Rock anchors, a minimum distance of 2.5 times the pile diameter is
maintained between the test pile and the Rock Anchors as per the IS Code provision. The
anchor (HTS strand) is installed in position and is to be fixed with the Loading girder
assembly during the load test.
P a g e | 10
METHOD STATEMENT FOR INITIAL AND ROUTINE LOAD TEST
USING ROCK ANCHORING METHOD

 A reaction frame is placed on top of the test pile such that the center of the vertical beam
matches with the axis of the test pile. All four horizontal ends of the frame shall be
supported on sand bags / any other firm supports. The strands from the Rock Anchors
shall be given initial seating load anchored with the horizontal members.
 MS Plate of Suitable thickness shall be kept on the pile to ensure uniform load transfer on
the main girders. The center of the plates, girders and the pile shall fall in the same axis.
 For Initial Pile Load test4 nos. of hydraulic Jacks of 500 MT each capacity, shall be placed
on the MS Plate fixed to the Pile head. Suitable thickness of MS Plate will be provided at
the top and bottom of the Jack of to ensure quick application of load as mentioned in the
drawing. Load will be applied by means of an electrical operated hydraulic Power Pack
connected to the Jacks by hydraulic hoses.
 Now the test pile is loaded by utilizing a hydraulic jack placed centrally on top of the test
pile, this results in applying compressive load on the test pile and the tensile load on the
Rock Anchors.

8.5.2 Instruments for measuring the movements:

 Two datum bars made out of suitable structural section shall be fixed on either side of the
Pile to the immovable supports at required distances not less than 1.5 Meters from the
edge of the main Pile.
 4 nos. of dial gauges are used for measuring deflection. The least count of the dial gauges
shall be at least 0.01mm. These dial gauges must be set up in such a way that any tilting
of test pile will not cause errors in the measurements. The four dial gauges which are
used shall be positioned at diametrically equal distances around the pile and normally
held by datum bars by their magnetic bases.
