DG ALTERNATOR CHECKING PROCEDURE

 Remove both +ve and –ve terminal from battery.

 Note down battery voltage/each cell voltage.
 Open alternator terminal box/bus-bar chamber.
 Discharge power cable at bus-bar chamber.
 Open PMG cover.
 Open ventilation cover provided for Main exciter chamber.
 Clean PMG, Bus-bar chamber, Main exciter along with its diode by
air blower and cloth.
 Open AVR card window and clean the same.
 Open AVR sensing wire from stator R, Y, B, N to AVR through
isolation transformer.
 Open all outgoing power cable from alternator Bus-bar chamber.
 Open F1 & F2 (for main exciter stator winding from AVR) from AVR
card.
 Open PMG outgoing plug/connection to AVR.
 Open all diode(6nos) connection, varistor connection(2nos) and main
rotor connection from diode wheel.
 Check each diode and varistor.
 Note all essential measurements like-
 Resistance value taken of the following
i. CTs(open one by one and take the value)
ii. RTDs(open one by one take the value)
iii. Main stator and rotor winding
iv. Exciter stator and rotor winding
v. PMG stator winding
 IR value taken of the following at 500V applied voltage
i. Main stator and rotor winding
ii. Exciter stator and rotor winding
iii. PMG stator winding
 After completion of the above connect all the wire properly….
i. PMG plug connect properly
ii. Connect all diode and varistor as it was before
iii. Main rotor connection given from diode wheel
iv. Connect AVR sensing wire from stator R, Y, B, N to AVR
through isolation transformer.
v. Connect all power cable to alternator Bus-bar.
vi. Connect F1 & F2
 Check final tightness of all cable/wire.
 After providing above connection cover the following…….
i. PMG
ii. Main exciter ventilation window
iii. Alternator terminal box/bus-bar chamber
 Check Alternator base bolt tightness by torque-wrench set at 105Nm.
 Coupling bolt of alternator and prime mover checked (hand tight).
 Connect all battery terminal as it was before.
 To check Residual voltage, open F1 & F2 from AVR card and start
DG. Note L1L2, L2L3, L3L1 voltage from controller display.
 Now connect F1 & F2 to AVR card and start DG to check DG output
voltage. Note L1L2, L2L3, L3L1 voltage from controller display.
 During running check voltage across F1 & F2 and PMG voltage from
AVR card with the help of multimeter.
 Finally covered AVR window.
