3. CALCULATION

3.1 General
Anchor bolts shall be designed and develop the allowable tension capacity taking into consideration the
spacing of the anchor bolts, distance from edge of pier and the concrete strength of the foundation into
which the anchor bolts are placed.

3 mm of corrosion allowance shall be applied for anchor bolt design.

Minimum bolt pitch (Lp) and edge length (E) for calculation basis is 5D (D = nominal diameter of bolts).
The design requirements shall be referred to S-900-1310-001 “Detailed Engineering Design Data for
Civil & Structure” and Steel Design Guide Series “Column Base Plates” published by AISC.

The details of Standard Anchor Bolts shall be referred to Dwg. No. D-900-1320-002.

3.2 Allowable Stress of Bolts

The allowable stress of bolts shall be as follows in accordance with AISC, Part 5, Table J3.2:

Allowable tensile stress : 20 ksi Ö 137.9 N/mm2

Allowable shear stress : 10 ksi Ö 68.95 N/mm2

3.3 Allowable Tensile Forces

3.3.1 Allowable Loads of Bolts (Tb)
Allowable loads of bolts shall be calculated by the following formula:
Tb = 0.138 Ae (kN)
where,
Ae = Effective area (gross area minus 3 mm corrosion margin) (mm2)

3.3.2 Pullout Capacity due to Concrete Cone Rapture

Pullout capacity of bolts (Tc) considering of concrete cone rapture shall be calculated by the following
formula in accordance with Steel Design Guide Series “Column Base Plates” published by AISC.
Tc = vc Ap/1000 (kN)
where,
vc = permissible shear stress carried by concrete (two way action, ACI 318-99 Appendix A)
1
= f ' c (N/mm2)
6
f’c = specified compressive strength of concrete (28MPa)
Ap = projected surface area of failure cone plane (ref. Fig.1) (mm2)

3.3.3 Allowable Tensile Forces (Ts)

Allowable tensile loads shall be smaller value of Tb and Tc.

3.4 Allowable Shear Forces

Allowable shear loads without tension (Vs) is calculated by the following formula:
Vs = 68.95 Ae /1000 (kN)

3.5 Combination of Tensile Forces and Shear Forces

Allowable tension stress (ft) combined with shear stress (fv) shall be calculated in accordance with AISC
PART 5 TABLE J3.3 as follows:

ft = 26 - 1.8fv ≦ 20 (ksi)

Therefore, tensile loads (Ta) combined with shear loads (V) shall be calculated folowing formula:

Ta = 0.179Ae - 1.8V ≦ Ts (kN)

and, Ta≦ Ts
V ≦ Vs
where,

_ __ Ts: Allowable tensil loads (kN)

3.6 Calculation Results

Calculation result is summarized in Table-1.

3.7 Anchor Bolt Reinforcement

Anchor Bolt Reinforcement, called as “Hairpin”, shall be designed for tensile reinforcing in accordance with
PIP STE05121 which is recommended by Owner if pullout capacity due to concrete cone rapture (Tc) in
anchor bolt design governs allowable load to Tension (TS). As per Calculation Result of Anchor Bolt,
“Hairpin” should not be required for shear reinforcing in this manner.

Calculation result is summarized as follows. For more detail of calculation, please refer to Table-2.1 and 2.2,
and Figure-2.1.
