October 1, 1949 - June 10, 2019
On June 10th after a farewell with
her loved ones our beloved Martina
AGM went Home. Martina is missed by her
Wednesday June 19, 2019 life-companion Frank and daughters

Martina was born on October 1,

older sister Petra were sent off by train

by their paternal grandmother Frei-
da to join up with their parents in the
former West Berlin. As refugees her
parents Anita and Gottfried had earli-
er fled; and, with the assistance of the
International Red Cross the family was
happily reunited.
Martina was an adventurous and
courageous person, and at age fifteen
moved to Oxford, where she was em-
ployed as an AuPair. She lived there
for a year and learned to speak Oxford
English (with the nicest German ac-
cent). Martina was pleased she spoke
good English and would explain how
as a schoolgirl she had trouble with
her English language lessons; and,
then after only three months living
in England, she spoke fluid English.
INDIGENOUS Later Martina returned to her folks in
Germany, where she began preparing

ety. To usher in a better reality, the status
quo must be challenged and this people
will misunderstand. A person will be
misunderstood. It’ll feel as if the entire
world is staring and waiting to throw
stones. I know…
Perhaps this is why so many compro-
mise the greater good and adopt the at-
titude: someone else will do it. Besides,
with so many material pleasures avail-
able, why invite pain and loneliness into
one’s sphere of existence? Nevertheless,
until this attitude is marginalized, no last-
ing positive change will be established.
Life can be lived by dodging the re-
sponsibilities of a good citizen, and the
pain and loneliness can be avoided. But
more there is to living than simply passing
time before the Grim Reaper descends.
I guess if the body wasn’t a temporary
vessel and the true “I” didn’t continue,
marching to a benevolent beat might not
