Pacing Guide:

Customizing contents to different time needs

Introduction for the teacher

The pacing guide of Way to go! series has been designed as a pragmatic
guide; in order to enable teachers to meet their and their students’ teaching
and learning objectives within the class hours available, whether they have 5,
4 or 3 45-50 minute-sessions a week. To get the best of the series, teachers
need to keep in mind the books include suggested pacing guides for 3 and 4
45-50 minute-sessions per week. If a teacher has 5 sessions per week, he/
she may refer to the teacher´s guide. The pacing guide includes each module
and unit along with their corresponding names, the week and lesson, as well
as the pages, activities and time suggested for each one of them.

The following includes a set of tips, which may be useful when referring to
or using the pacing guide:

• Extra activities are referenced in this pacing guide with a number.


These numbers are independent from the ones found in the teacher´s
guide.

• This pacing guide must be used along with the teacher´s guide; in
order to identify or locate extra activities and study tips.

• Choose the pacing guide which corresponds to the level, module, and
number of sessions you teach per week (5, 4 or 3).

• Read through the pacing guide in order to identify the sessions that
best suit your student´s needs.

• Select the activities you want to teach and introduce them as


presented in the pacing guide, considering the amount of time
suggested for each activity.

• In sessions where you have 5 or 10 minutes without a proposed


activity, use this time to do a warm up activity, wrap up a previous
lesson, reinforce skills that need to be developed or carry out
assessment activities relevant to students’ learning process.

• Compare your current progress with the pacing guide as you go and
adjust as necessary to ensure you meet your teaching and learning
objectives.

• Review your course objectives and make adjustments as necessary.
