Universal Design for Learning (UDL): This activity will support UDL by:
 Being accessible anywhere (students on bed rest, broken limb, sick, etc.)
 The website has multiple languages making it accessible for ELL’s.
 Students with learning disabilities can watch the video as many times as needed and can stop the
video at any time to take notes.
 The tutorial helps visual learners, while the closed captions and sounds help auditory learners.

Lesson idea implementation: The teacher will introduce the study of money using the money video as a
hook. The teacher will then inform the students that after the video is over, the students will be participating
in a classroom store. First, the students must watch the video. The teacher will then give each student a
handful of play money. The students will watch the video again, but this time they will use their play money
to follow along in the video. For example, if Moby displays $1.43, the students should also count their money

to that amount as well. The teacher will be walking around and making sure everyone is on task (This should
take about 20 minutes).

After the video is over, there will be 5 stations around the room. Each station has a few items that cost money
(apple, pencil, toy, etc). Students can choose which station they would like to go to. The students are
instructed to add up the cost of all of the items at their station. If the students need to refer back to the
video, an IPad will be available for reference at each station. Once the students have figured out how much
their station costs, they will return to the carpet. The teacher will use anchor chart paper and ask how much
each station costs. The class will double-check everyone’s work (This should take 10 minutes). The teacher
will state that the class only has $10.00 to spend. Can the class buy all of the items? If not, which item would
you give up and why? This part of the assignment will be worked alone (This should take 20 minutes). Each
response should be unique as all children are different. These responses will be scanned and uploaded to the
class website.
Reflective Practice: To extend this lesson, the teacher could set up a real class store. For example, if a
student’s needs to borrow a pencil, it is 10 cents (fake money of course). The students only have a certain
amount of money they can spend per week. To make it a higher LoTi level, the teacher could bring in an
accountant or someone who works at a bank to explain how important money and budgeting is.
