DISCRIMINATION

Discrimination is a very serious problem for the contemporary society.

People do discriminate against each other whether their actions are
intentional or happen. Discrimination means treating some people
differently from others. It isn’t always unlawful after all people are paid
different wages depending on their status and skills. Discrimination are
many types such as religious discrimination, gender discrimination and age
discrimination.

Religious discrimination involves treating a person unfavorably because of

his or her religious beliefs. The law protects not only people who belong to
traditional, organized religious, such as Christianity and Islam also others
who have sincerely held religious, ethical or moral beliefs. Religious
discrimination can also involve treating someone differently because that
person is married to an individual of a particular religion or because of his
or her connection with a religious organization or group. Religious
discrimination in Pakistan is a serious issue in modern day Pakistan.
Christians, Hindus, Atheists and Ahmadi Muslims among other religious
groups in Pakistan are routinely discriminated against. They are at times
refused jobs, loans, housing and other similar things simply because of
their choice of religious faith. Christians churches and Ahmadi worship
places and their worshippers are often attacked. At the time of Pakistan’s
creations the ‘hostage theory’ had been espoused. According to this theory
the Hindu minority in Pakistan was to be given a fair deal in Pakistan in
order to ensure the protection of the Muslim minority in India. Khawaja
Nazimuddin, the 2nd Prime Minister of Pakistan, stated:

“I do not agree that religion is a private affair of the individual nor do I

agree that in an Islamic state every citizen has identical rights, no matter
what his caste, creed or faith be.”

Gender discrimination refers to unfair rights between male and female

based on different gender roles which leads to unequal treatment in life.
The term gender inequality has been widely known in human history but
not until the beginning the 20th century has the transformation of gender
relations become “one of the most rapid, profound social changes”
discrimination of genders leads to some problems in education. Education
is an important tool, is the key to the growth of human. And no matter what
gender a person is, he has right to expose to education like others. World
Bank in 2001 stated that in almost all poor countries, there is a high trend
of educational impacts of gender inequality. In poverty, girls are more likely
to be influenced to approach education.

Age discrimination in the workplace is the negative or disadvantageous

treatment of employees based on their age rather than performance or
merit. While any employee can be targeted by age discrimination –
including younger employees – protection from age discrimination is
mandated in law only for employees over the age of 40, which is the main
target group for age-based discrimination in the workplace. People under
the age of 21 usually get paid less than older people for doing the same job.
This is a major problem in today’s workplace. In order to correct this
problem we need to focus our attention on paying people’s wages based on
their skills and performance of their duties. If a 16 and a 43-year old both
have the same skills doing the same job they should be paid the same. Some
people argue that older people should be paid more than youths because
they have more financial duties and responsibilities more than younger
people. In order to make you a high amount of money you need to posses
certain skills and attributes that not many other people have. This is the
reason behind all the problem.
Discrimination takes place against various groups on the basis of a range of
factors as discrimination of religious, gender and age discrimination.
