POLICIES AND GUIDELINES ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE SCIENCE,


TECHNOLOGY AND ENGINEERING CURRICULAR PROGRAM (STE-CP) AT THE
SECONDARY LEVEL

VISION
 Responsible and morally upright graduates from schools offering relevant and
innovative Science, Technology, Engineering and Research education.

MISSION
 Center of excellence in Science, Technology and Engineering Education in the
schools divisions that shall develop the full potential of students along the areas
of Science, Technology, Engineering and Research.

OBJECTIVES OF THE SCIENCE PROGRAM


 To widen access to quality secondary education in Science, Technology,
Engineering and Research education.
 To develop a Science culture among students with the view to prepare them for
careers in or for higher learning in Science, Technology, Engineering and Research.

ADMISSION
 Admission Period to take the Test will start:
- Month of November
Selection Process
 The school shall organize a Special Committee composed of:
- one (1) STE Coordinator / Department Head
- one (1) STE teacher preferably handling an advance subject
- Guidance Counselor / Designated Guidance Counselor to perform the
following functions:

Stage 1: Preliminary selection through documentary evaluation to assess the


readiness / qualification of applicants based on the basic requirements
below:

 Duly accomplished application form


 NSO/ PSA Birth Certificate (photocopy)
 Certificate of Good Moral Character
 SF 9 (Student’s Report Card) (certified true copy)
Open to incoming Grade 7 learners with:
- Average of 85% or above (the sum of the 1st and 2nd quarter
average divided by 2)
- At least 85% in Science, Math and English (per quarter)
- At least 83% in other subjects (per quarter)

Stage 2: Administration of admission test/s as Competitive Entrance Test and


Aptitude Test shall be under the supervision of the Regional/Division
Supervisor/Coordinator in-charge of the special program in Science,
Technology and Engineering.

Stage 3: Qualified applicant shall submit the following documents to enroll in


the program.

 NSO/ PSA Birth Certificate (Original)


 Certificate of Good Moral Character
 Medical Certificate (for health record)
 SF 9 (Student’s Report Card)
Open to incoming Grade 7 learners with:
- General Average of 85% or above
- At least 85% in Science, Math and English (per quarter)
- At least 83% in other subjects (per quarter)

RETENTION
 With a final grade of 85% in Science, Mathematics and Research subjects and 83%
in the rest of the subjects.
 With NO grade lower than 80% in any grading period during the school year.
 Learners who fail to meet the required grades shall be recommended for transfer
to regular class.

TRANSFER
 From a STE class to another STE class in another school implementing STE program.

ORGANIZATION OF CLASSES
 At least two (2) STE classes per grade level
 Thirty-five (35) learners in a class.

FEATURES OF THE K TO 12 CURRICULUM


 Follows the Spiral Progression Approach
 Promotes enduring understanding of the different topics and concepts across
disciplines and across subject areas
 Is defined in terms of standards - expressed in terms of what students should know
and the quality and proficiency of the skills that they are expected to demonstrate
that they are expected to demonstrate as an evidence of learning.

LEARNING AREAS & DESCRIPTION


 Core curricula are as described in DepED Order No. 31, s. 2012.
 Eight (8) learning areas of the core curriculum namely Filipino , English, Science,
Mathematics, Araling Panlipunan (AP), Technology and Livelihood Education
(Information and Communication Technology) Music, Arts, Physical Education and
Health (MAPEH) and Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (EsP).
 Add on subjects: Research I-IV (four times a week)
 Elective subjects: Environmental Science (G7), Biotechnology (G8),
Applied/Consumer Chemistry/Statistics (G9) and Applied Physics/Electronics and
Robotics (G10).

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

 Managed by a School Head who is preferably a degree holder in Science or


Mathematics
 Delivered by teachers whose qualifications include a degree in his /her area of
specification
 Advisers are preferably Science or Mathematics Teacher
 Assisted by a bookkeeper, guidance counsellor, librarian and school nurse

PHYSICAL FACILITIES & RESOURCES

 Classrooms and laboratories (e.g. Biology, Chemistry and Physics)


 Equipment including computers, connectivity and library facilities
 Resources (e.g. textbooks, resource books, science magazines and other
supplementary materials)

STE CURRICULUM

 Core curriculum based on the K to 12 Basic Program from Grade 7 to Grade 10.
 Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) is based in ICT.
 Further enriched by offering Research subject focusing on experimental research
(Science Investigatory Projects.
 Elective subjects: Environmental Science (G7), Biotechnology (G8),
Applied/Consumer Chemistry/Adv. Statistics (G9) and Applied Physics/Electronics
and Robotics (G10).

 Core subjects as stipulated in DepED Order No. 31, s. 2012 shall be strictly
implemented
 Research shall be allocated 4 hours per week.

ASSESSMENT AND RATING SYSTEM

 All STE implementing schools shall follow the existing DepEd Order No. 8, series
2015, entitled “Policy Guidelines on Classroom Assessment for K to 12 Basic
Education Programs”, DepEd Order No. 29, series 2015, entitled “Clarification to
DepEd Order No. 8, series 2015” and DepEd Order No. 22, series 2016, entitled
“Policy Guidelines on the National Assessment on Student Learning for the K to 12
Basic Education” until such time that the Department of Education decides to
modify or rescind such policies.

HONORS AND AWARDS

 To determine the honors and awards of students, the learners shall be recognized
according to the academic performance as indicated in DepEd Order No. 36, series
of 2016.
LEARNING RESOURCES

 Modules as basic learning resources (Thus students should be more self-


managing.)
 Web-based resources and video materials to enrich and deepen understanding
 Textbooks and other instructional materials where appropriate
 Teaching guides, exemplars and workbooks as teaching resources

CULMINATING ACTIVITY / PERFORMANCES

 At the end of each quarter, schools may put up exhibits for student products across
subjects areas as culminating activity and as evidence of their learning or
attainment of content and performance standards.
