Radio Network Planning & Optimization
Radio Network Planning is a major step in network deployment. It

Radio Network Optimization

Each operator chooses own KPIs (Key Performance Indicator)
and sets, according to specific criteria, some objective to be
met in order to achieve a good end user perception of the
service offered. No matter how thorough the design of a
network is, it is the responsibility of the system performance
engineer to ensure that equipment operates and performs at
optimum engineering levels. For example, the performance
engineer ensures that the KPI factors are at their best, leading
to greater customer satisfaction and revenue potential.
The optimization will be focused just on time before first
network launch. During that period of the time there is no

DRIVE TEST & BENCHMARKING

All GSM and 3G operators use Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to judge their network performance and evaluate the Quality of Service
(QoS) regarding end user perspective. All the events being occurred over air interface are triggering different counters in the Base Station
Controller (BSC). The KPIs are derived with the help of these counters using different formulations. In this paper, a well established
real GSM radio frequency (RF) network performance evaluation is presented on the basis of four major KPIs such as :
 Call set up success rate (CSSR)
 Call Drop Rate (CDR)
 Handover Success Rate (HSR)
 Radio traffic channel (TCH) congestion rate.

It has been focused to analyze the live network performance; irrespective of the discussions and modeling available in the literature.
Different issues, findings, trials and improvements have been summarized and observations/recommendations have been listed to
correlate the practical aspects of RF optimization, which affect the performance, and QoS of an operational cellular network.

TELECOMMUNICATION – RADIO NETWORK

Transmission Network Planning

The goal of the MW LOS survey is to check the

possibility of MW link implementation between
two sites (point to point). We divide the survey
base on the path distance, i.e. short and long
distance. For short distance (< 5 km), the
visibility check between two sites could be
performed by binocular while the long distance
path (> 5 km) should also be checked with map
study.

•MW Line Of Sight/LOS Survey

•MW Installation Design Survey
•MW Path Profile Analysis
•MW Path Calculation/Link Budget Analysis

The visibility checked done by climbing the existing tower or the existing building.
The data should be taken while doing the field survey is,

Site location lay out drawing

•Coordinate of sites
•Altitude of sites
•North Orientation of the sites
•Blocking object (Height of Trees, Buildings, Towers, etc) with azimuth degree
•Terrain condition along the path (Water, Sea, Dessert, etc)
•Maximum tower height allowed (for new tower)
•Picture of sites, picture of path, picture of blocking objects
•Any other information which influence the MW link implementation

TELECOMMUNICATION – INDOOR SOLUTION

In-building System Design

Aeta believed differentiation in services offered by the wireless operators can be measured according to how extensive in-building coverage
is provided to the customers. We view the requirement is more critical when providing 2G,3G &4G services. This is due to:

• Insufficient coverage from macro sites

• The unpredictable RF environment in buildings
• Higher expectations in on network quality
• Reduced investments and quicker payback for indoor solutions

We have specialized consultant team to concentrate on in building solutions, where they will be involved in designing different type of
solution for IBS (passive or active). Our consultants have proven track record of designing various in building coverage solutions in various
projects locally and abroad.
