MEDIUM/MATERIAL
The main material used in making an artwork
Wet media – consists of a pigment (the actual
color), a vehicle (keeps it fluid until use) and a
binder (makes the paint dry and adhere on the
surface)
• Acrylic – water soluble, plastic/resin‐based paint,
permanent when dry
• Watercolor – water soluble, transparent paint, non‐
permanent; main binder is gum arabic.

MEDIUM/MATERIAL
• Poster color/Gouache – water soluble, “opaque
watercolor”
• Tempera – uses egg‐based binder
