The Montana Department of
Transportation (MDT) is excited to
unveil the Milk River North Project
just in time for the summer travelers.
The Milk River North project
reconstructed a portion of MT 117
from the Milk River Bridge near
Nashua to US Highway 2 on a new
alignment just west of Nashua. The
project includes a new railroad
overpass and connection to US
2. The existing roadway through
Nashua was repaved along with new
sidewalk on the south side of Front
Street between River Street and Davis
Street. Both the new and existing
roadways will receive a chip seal and
new pavement markings.
The new overpass will open
to the traveling public on June
13th. The community is invited to
come together for a ribbon-cutting
ceremony on Thursday, June 13th
at 10:00 a.m. on the south end of
the new RR Bridge along MT 117.
Refreshments will be provided on–
site.
“It’s been an impactful project,
and it’s been a long time coming.
We’re happy to have traffic on the
new structure before summer sets in,”
said Shane Mintz, MDT’s Glendive
District Administrator. “The ribbon-
cutting is a chance for MDT to
celebrate with the community.”

on the $ 9.5 million project in the fall of 2017 and the
overpass will officially open to the traveling public
following Thursday’s event.
The new overpass is a vast improvement and provides
an alternate route to Hwy 2 and more importantly, a faster
route to the to the Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital
in Glasgow. It will be a welcome improvement for many
people in the community including fire and emergency
services.
Thursday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony will be a time
for the Nashua and surrounding communities to convene
and celebrate the end of construction.
At the Library
Storytime at the Glasgow City-County Library for
Thursday, June 13th has been cancelled.
The summer reading program, “A Universe of
Stories”, kicks off on June Monday, June 17th. Come
register and pick up your packet. The first program is
Tuesday, June 18th— “Imagination Galaxy” — at 2:00
p.m. for ages 7-12.

Summer time in education is an interesting time.
It’s a time to recharge our batteries, attend professional
development opportunities, work a second job, recreate
with our friends and families. While the teachers are done
at the end of the school year, the Superintendent position
works the entire calendar year, while the principals work
an extra 4-5 weeks in the summer.
In July, the School Board and I will have a full day
work session to define the goals for the Glasgow School
District. We will have board training from the Montana
School Board Association (MTSBA), we will have a
facility walk audit looking at our athletic facilities in
particular and school sites in general, and we will also
discuss the Boards direction for the District as to meeting
the District Mission Statement: “The mission of the
Glasgow School District is to develop the full potential of
all students in the district.”
As for my professional development goals for this
summer, I will be visiting with Superintendents to see how
they developed their plans for passage of their levies. I will
also be exploring standards based grading as it pertains to
our continuing Professional Learning Community.
I plan on getting out camping this summer to
recharge the batteries. Exploring Montana always amazes
me. We have such a massive and diverse state. It makes
for a wide variety of experiences week to week. We are
extremely fortunate to live in our state.
