Title: Doval Doctrine got his extension of 5 years

Indian hawkish National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval got his first promotion of another 5 years with
a rank of a cabinet minister. Doval who was an IPS officer of 1968 batch is very popular for the offensive
approach. During his service term of five years from 2014 to 2019, Doval asserted more on 'Offensive
Defense' than sole 'Defensive' policy. It was a major policy shift of India on border terrorism and
infiltration from Pakistan. The NSA's work in India in these 5 years was principally based on Internal -
security and to combat the terrorism coming from across the borders.

The mentioned policy reflected from the initial days of his appointment. On October 7, 2014, Doval
summoned the BSF director & general and told him overtly to "Fire at will" with "Full force" even at the
slightest provocation from Pak's cross border firing. According to Doval doctrine, security forces have to
destroy their infrastructure until ceasefire from the other side stopped. The message is clear "it will
bleed more" if any country continues its proxy against India.

Although the masterstroke of an airstrike in Balakot which regained the popularity of Modi at another
level was the brainchild of Doval. According to his colleagues, he is very very nationalistic which suits the
ideology of BJP led NDA government. Moreover, the policy of Double Squeeze & Offensive Defense is
designed to regain the regional hegemony of India. The tough and aggressive stand of the Indian
government over Doklam plateau where Indian security forces forced the Chinese combat forces to
retreat. It was the major victory of Doval Doctrine which is much more aggressive than it appears.

NSA's role in the fragile rescue of 46 Indian nurses who were trapped in the Caliphate of ISIS near Tikrit,
Iraq was a glaring example of his hawkish diplomacy. Moreover, surgical strikes in Myanmar on Naga
militants was another step to set the regional hegemony of India across Asia.

Doval is not only changing the definition of NSA in India but he is much more likely to develop the
culture of making think tanks in India. Unlike western countries, India had never focussed on the
building strong policies which lack in setting the hegemony in the realm. Doval also founded 'Vivekanand
International Foundation' to fill the loopholes in the field of International Relations and in policymaking.

The policy of a crackdown on militants in Kashmir by the security forces is backing his aggressive policy
to tackle insurgency in the region. According to Doval, weak states invite trouble rather than mitigate or
combat it. "If you are not able to exercise power, it is as good as not having it", he often uses this
statement to back his decision.

He is focussing more on internal security like in Kashmir and northeast his aggression against the local
militants rooted in 2006. In an interview given to rediff.com Doval once said that "after world war II very
few countries have lost their territory, their constitution, their economy because of external threats".
East Timor, Bangladesh & the breaking of the soviet union was because of internal threats that lead to
civil war or breakdown of law.
Sometimes people rewarded him as the modern Patel of India who is responsible for eliminating the
separators and their movements from India during a long period of 1970 to 2000. From his role in
negotiating with Mizoram National Front leaders to signed the Mizoram Accord to collecting information
from the militants of Khalistan movement for Black Thunder Operation. Moreover, he was also engaged
in the merger of Sikkim in India and also, started state election in Kashmir in 1996.

Due to his quality of spying and way of dealing with the realm, many times people awarded him the tag
of Indian James Bond. He is as much as popular as Prime Minister Narendra Modi due to his tough stand
against insurgency and his strong favor for Indian security forces. However, one thing makes him more
prominent than other NSA's of India is his decision making policy. Once a decision was taken he would
be unwavering in the task of implementing it. That also makes him stand in the queue of the Finest
NSA's in the world. Like the NSA of the United States, Doval is asserting more on creating fear with his
expansionist policy. His policy of making Indian sway over the region by grappling with the threats of
internal security helped him a lot to project himself the real James bond of India.

Furthermore, giving a free hand to the security forces in Kashmir and North East to tackle the problem
of religious extremism is also his priority. Eventually, this is a pivotal time for Ajit Doval to prove his skills
in Kashmir to eliminate the problem of insurgency. The major crackdown of Security forces in Kashmir
has still to go long in the guidance of NSA Doval although the results of his policies will play a vital role in
deciding the great future of India.

Nevertheless, he asserts more on creating fear and the expansionist policy of his doctrine is designed to
reshape Indian boundaries as it was in Ancient time. His speech over Baluchistan is a reason for Pakistan
to fear from his Double Squeeze Policy. Whereas, Pakistan condemned the Double Squeeze strategy of
India in the United Nations as a blunder for setting Indian hegemony in the region.
