Release Preview
Since the acquisition of Mapinfo Discover Suite in Tablet menu customisation
July, Datamine has been busy connecting with Experience the  new templated tablet menu for

Automatic Scheduling
The automatic scheduling in Studio OP has
continued to rapidly improve. Work has been
done to enable scheduling jobs to be done
locally or pushed to the cloud using
Datamine’s Summit platform.
The automatic scheduler takes account of the
settings and parameters used by OP’s
interactive scheduler, so using the automatic
scheduler requires minimal extra inputs to be
defined.  The automatic scheduler produces
an optimal schedule by looking for a solution
over all the time periods.  honoured.

Shovel Movement Control
A recent addition to the automatic scheduler
is shovel movement control. This is
particularly useful for medium term
operational scheduling that takes account of
the type and total number of available
excavators and the mining constraints on
each pushback.

schedule was generated with no excavator
control whereas the second, with excavator
control, has minimal movement of equipment
and ensures the maximum amount of
equipment permitted on each pushback is

Welcome to the new interface for DHLogger!

Scheduled for public release in November 2017, the user interface has been
optimized for use on Windows touch screen tablets. While making
DHLogger Tablet and touch screen friendly, the user interface has been
modernized and simplified.

Users can toggle between Tablet and Desktop mode directly from within
DHLogger. Tablet mode makes use of larger fields, easy to touch module
‘tabs’ and larger buttons.

Users are offered the choice of ‘Form’ and ‘List’ view to enter and maintain
data. Maintaining data in the Form view area means less scrolling to edit or
add data. Lists can be scrolled and the application navigated with intuitive
touch gestures that users have come to expect on touch screen tablets.

Geotech Blockmodels Revisited
Marius van Niekerk presented a paper the 7th
of August on Geotechnical Block Models at
SAIMM’s Rapid Underground Mine and Civil
Access Conference 2017, held at Emperors
Palace Convention Centre, Johannesburg. His
co-authors were Karel Balt and Carel de Beer
both principal consultants in geo-technical
engineering at Advisian WorleyParsons.

The objectives of the paper were :
• To stimulate renewed interest in 3D rock
mass modelling
• To re-introduce the concept, some basic
principles, and the background of
geotechnical engineering
• To inform decision-makers and their
technical advisors of the potential
applications of the technology, together with
an exposé of its advantages and potential
pitfalls.
Both Datamine and Advisian Consultants
have completed a range of geotechnical
models that added great value to their
clients assisting the clients to  understand
geotechnical risk and to assist with
optimizing their mine designs.

EXPOSIBRAM 2017
EXPOSIBRAM and the Brazilian Mining
Congress reached their 17th edition
anniversary in Septebmer 2017.

Hosted in the city of Belo Horizonte, Brazil,

Exposibram is one of the largest exhibitions in
Latin America and brings together the major
mining companies and suppliers of products
and services. The exhibition receives on
average more than 40,000 visitors and
focuses on the strategic opportunities and
closer ties between miners and suppliers.

Datamine was present once again, located right
at the entrance of the event. We  received a
large number of visitors including customers,
students and technology partners. There was a
significant amount of interested in our products
and services and one could sense a positive
improvement in industry sentiment.
We were honored to receive at our stand
Vicente Humberto Lôbo, current Secretary of
Geology, Mining and Mineral Transformation.
Lôbo was director of Vale Fertilizantes between
2010 and 2015 and industrial director at Bunge
Ltda, between 2003 and 2010.
It was great to reconnect with existing
contacts and meet some new ones as well,
demonstrating the importance of
Datamine's participation in this great
annual event.
The exhibition was also an opportunity to
highlight and demonstrate two of the
newer products in the Datamine range:
