Okowa Swears-in Ebie as SSG;

Warns Against Sectionalism by all
Appointees
On Monday, June 3rd, the Delta
State Governor, Senator Dr.
Ifeanyi Okowa swore-in Mr.
Chiedu Ebie as the Secretary to
the Delta State Government
(SSG).
The swearing-in ceremony took
place at Unity Hall in Asaba.
During the swearing-in, the
Governor said: “I want to assure
all Deltans that this administration
will continue to run an all-inclusive
government whether in terms of
appointments or project distribution.
We have only just started, however,
Deltans should trust us to do the right
thing, and do it we shall ensure that all
appointments into this administration
will be based on merit and
geographical spread, not on emotions,
sentiments or for the sole purpose of
political patronage,” Okowa said.

Okowa Felicitates with Muslims on

Sallah
On Tuesday, June 4th, the Delta State
Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa,
felicitated with the Muslim Community
on the celebration of the Eid-el-Fitri.
The Governor also congratulated all
Muslims for successfully completing
this year’s Ramadan Fast.
The Governor said: “As we celebrate
Eid-el-Fitri, it is my hope and prayer
that Ramadan’s spiritual lessons and
the Holy Prophet’s teachings of piety,
love, justice, fairness, equity, peaceful
co-existence with others, tolerance,
honesty and dedication to duty will
remain with us all for the benefit and
greater glory of our dear nation.
"May the lessons and blessings of
the Holy Month also permeate into us
all, and positively influence our
attitudes towards our fellow
countrymen and women, irrespective
of religion or place of origin,” he said.

Okowa, Obaseki Meet to Discuss

Economy, Security of South-South Region
On Wednesday, June 5th, the Delta
State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi
Okowa, and his Edo State counterpart,
Mr. Godwin Obaseki, met to brainstorm
on how to deepen economic ties and
improve on the security situation in their
respective states.
“Our states belonged to the old Bendel
and we came with ideas that will move
the two states forward,” Governor Okowa
said, “We want to leverage on our strong
ties as members of old Bendel State to
better the lot of our people.”

Speaking about their meeting, which

went into a closed door and lasted for
about 45 minutes before they were
joined by Journalists, Governors Okowa
and Obaseki reiterated that the meeting
was dialogue between brothers and
friends who are both Governors.

Okowa Inaugurates
Funkeme Solomon
as Senior Political
Adviser
On Thursday, June 6th, the Delta State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi
Okowa, inaugurated Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon as his Senior
Political Adviser. At the inauguration ceremony, the Governor
emphasised that his second term will be a busy one as his
administration is determined to build a stronger state.
“This second tenure promises to be quite busy; every appointment that
we make is a call to serve for us to deliver on our mandate for a
stronger Delta State," Governor Okowa said.

Okowa, Journalists in Media Parley
On Thursday, June 6th, the Delta State
Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa held a
Media Chat with journalists in Asaba. At the
event, the Governor expressed his gratitude for
the constructive criticism by journalists in the
state while also urging them to always ensure
the factual reporting of his policies and
programmes.
Journalists who spoke at the event, including
the National Vice-President (South-South) of
the NUJ, Comrade Edward Ogude and
Comrade Mike Ikeogwu, Chairman of NUJ
Delta State Council, commended Governor
Okowa for his administration’s accessibility and
transparency.
“I must thank Deltans in general and thank you
(Journalists) for reporting our activities; at every
point in time, before, during and after the
campaigns, you were with us, even some of
you who were afraid of water, were with us in
the creeks.
“I appreciate the roles Journalists are playing in
my government. We are partners in progress
and that partnership should continue. We must
ensure accurate reporting. If there is any issue
that requires clarification, you can reach me,
the Chief Press Secretary or any of the political
appointees because, we have an open-door
policy where all Journalists, every Deltan has
the right to be contributors to good governance;
as much as possible, I will be frank with our
people,” Governor Okowa said.

On Friday, June 7th, the Delta State

attended a national security meeting at the
Presidential Villa, Abuja, with President
Muhammadu Buhari, the 36 State
Governors and the nation’s security chiefs.
