Welcome to RP 2017-2018
The module provides you with the opportunity to demonstrate your ability to manage
your own learning to produce an in-depth study of a marketing topic that is of particular
interest to you. The structure, content and requirements are unique to the Research
Project Marketing department and may be different to other Research Projects across the
NBS platform. Therefore, adhere to the RP Marketing outline and brief rather than other
department within NBS. It helps you to develop and practice valuable skills that are
required in employment where you may often be tasked to investigate something and
produce an academic article showing your findings and recommendations. As part of the
project you will need to produce a proposal, secure ethical approval and get these
agreed by your supervisor to ensure that it meets the aims of the module and more
importantly that it is a project you will be able to complete within the timescale.
Ethics Application: The ethics application includes two parts-documents for quantitative
Draft studies and three parts-documents for qualitative studies.
Submission Date: w/c 8th January 2018 – Week 24
Submission: Bring hard copies of your ethics application to the first learning set
after Christmas break. You cannot start your data collection until your
supervisor has signed your ethics form. Your supervisor will only sign
your form after reviewing your proposal, reviewing your application
and believes you are ready to start your data collection.
Summative Assessment
Assessment: Journal Article ‘style’ relating to a relevant marketing topic that you have
researched over the course of the module
Weighting: 100% of the module mark
Word count: maximum 6,000
Submission Date: 12 noon on Thursday 29th March 2018
Submission: One electronic copy (PDF) – Dropbox. If your final submission/document
is too big for DROPBOX, you can upload your appendices as a separate
word document to your main article. You do NOT need to submit an ethics
form with your final article.
Agreeing the scope of a task or project and managing expectations are important skills
you will draw on in working life, as are demonstrating your resourcefulness and initiative
in achieving objectives. The successful completion of this module relies on you taking
personal responsibility for the whole process from its inception to completion. Although
there are sessions and supervision provided during the two terms, your supervisors are
there to facilitate rather than teach. This means that you must be proactive in your
approach and take advantage of the opportunities provided to help you with the
completion of the project. Also no matter what the topic or style you have chosen to use
as the basis for your project, we still expect it to be theoretically underpinned so that it
provides the academic rigour expected in the final year of your degree.
In accordance with academic practice, ensure that your Journal Article is presented in
accordance with the guidelines provided in this document. Please note, the word
guidance for each section of the article is for ‘guidance’ only.
