RESUMO
ABSTRACT
The rotavirus is the main viral agent responsible for the occurrence of acute diarrheal
diseases, the most common disease in the world that affects more incisively children
under the age of five who live in developing countries. This article examines its main
features, the circumstances through which the virus multiplies in living cells, the
pathology associated with foodborne illnesses and the prophylactic methods, besides
presenting a brief overview of the rotavirus trajectory in Brazil and the relationships
between rotaviruses and public health.
