I. Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson, 80% of the students will be able
to attain the following with at least 75% of proficiency:
a. Determine the trigonometric functions;
b. evaluate the six trigonometric functions as defined
for the angles of a right triangle; and
c. solve right triangles using applicable trigonometric
ratios.

III. Procedure
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Routinary Activities
 Prayer
 Managing of the Classroom
 Checking of Attendance
2. Recapitulation of the Previous Lesson
 What is the formula for the Pythagorean Theorem?
B. Motivation
 “TRI TO GUESS THE WORD” - For this activity, the teacher will
project on the board a puzzle that contains equations. The students
will solve for the equations projected for them to be able to guess
the word being asked. The first student to finish that task will
be declared as the winner.
C. Presentation of the Lesson
The teacher will ask the following questions to present the
lesson:
 What are the things that you have observed about the activity
that you did a while ago?
 Give concrete examples that shows the illustration of triangles.
The activity that you did a while ago is much related to our
topic for today which is “THE SIX TRIGONOMETRIC FUNCTIONS.”
D. Lesson Proper
THE SIX TRIGONOMETRIC FUNCTIONS
A right triangle possesses only one right angle but has two
acute angles. The term used to identify the opposite side of the
right angles which is also the longest side of the triangle is
called the hypotenuse.
In a right triangle, we can actually define six trigonometric
ratios. Consider the right triangle ABC below. In this triangle we
let θ represent ∠B. Then the leg denoted by 𝑎 is the side adjacent
to θ, and the leg denoted by 𝑏 is the side opposite to θ.
We will use the convention that angles are symbolized by
capital letters, while the side opposite each angle will carry the
same letter symbol, in lowercase.

These diagram shows the formulas on how you will be able to

solve for the value of each trigonometric functions.
To solve right triangles is to know the measurement or to
approximate the sizes of its acute angles and side when the
measurements of at least a leg and an angle, or of two of its sides
are given.
Example. Find the values of the trigonometric ratios of θ
in the triangle.
Using the Pythagorean Theorem, the
hypotenuse r can be computed as:
∝ r r  32  42

r  9  16
r  25 r 5

found using a calculator. Also, you can use a calculator to find
an angle when you are given a trigonometric ratio.
A. Finding a ratio given the angle.
Example: To find the value of sin 38°, ensure that your
calculator is operating in degrees.
Solution: Press
sin 38 = 0.615661475
B. Finding an angle given the ratio.
In finding the size of the angle to the nearest minute, given
the value of the trigonometric ratio, just follow the steps in the
example below.
Example: sin θ= 0.725, find the value of θ.
Solution: Press
Shift sin 0.725 = 46.46884783
E. Generalization
1. What are the six trigonometric functions?
2. What are the ratio for each of the six trigonometric functions?
3. How do you compute for the trigonometric functions of a right
triangle?

IV. Evaluation (1/2 crosswise, 10 pts.)

A. Match the trigonometric with its right triangle definition.
Write the letter of your answer on the space provided before
the number.
