LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS GRADE 10

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
 Solve a quartile value of an ungrouped data;
 Interpret the meaning of the computed quartile value; and
 Practice accuracy and mental alertness in computing quartile value.

III. STRATEGIES
 Routinary Activities

Activity:
First, the teacher will show a picture on the board and let the
students observe the picture, and then the students will guess the rumbled letters into
word. Then the teacher will give 2-3 minutes to observe the pictures, and after that the
teacher will call some of the students to answer the activity given on the board.

Analysis:
The teacher will ask some questions about the activity and after
that he will introduce the topic.
1. What have you observe to our activity?
2. How did you come with that answer?
3. Did you know that this activity has connection to our lesson for
today?

Abstraction:
 Measures of position – are techniques that divide a set of data
into equal group.
-the different measures of positions are
quartile, decile, and percentile.
Quartile – are the three values of the variable that divide an
ordered data set into four equal parts. Each set of observation has
3 quartiles and they are denoted by Q1, Q2, and Q3.

Steps in solving the quartile of ungrouped data;


1. Arrange the scores in INCREASING or DECREASING order.
2. Identify the lowest score and highest score.
3. Find the MIDDLE SCORE. Label it as Q2.
4. Identify the value between the middle score and the lowest
score. Label it as Q1.
5. Identify the value between the middle score and the highest
score. Label it as Q3.
EXAMPLE:
The scores of 15 students in a mathematics seatwork are:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 ( ODD NUMBERS )
N= 15 ( the total number of data set)
Q1=4 , Q2=8 , Q3=12
FORMULA:

Example:

Find the median, lower quartile, upper quartile, interquartile range and range of the
following numbers.

12, 5, 22, 30, 7, 36, 14, 42, 15, 53, 25, 65

Solution:
First, arrange the data in ascending order:

5 7 12 14 15 22 25 30 36 42 53 65

Lower quartile or first quartile = 12 + 14 = 13

Median or second quartile = 22 + 25 = 23.5

Upper quartile or third quartile = 36 + 42 = 39

Application:
The teacher will give an example and let the students solve the problem.

student’s grades? Interpret your computed value.
