What comes to your mind when you hear about poverty and crime together?

It is an undeniable fact
that the unstable circumstances prevailing in the country since its existence have made us to think in a
way that we associate poverty with crime without a second thought.

Poverty and crime have an exceptionally "intimate" relationship that has been depicted by specialists
from all fields, from sociologists to financial specialists.

MINDSET:

In order to get to know the opinion of general public regarding this topic we conducted a survey and
with no surprise the results clearly indicated that the general public strongly associated poverty with
crime rate and all of them believed that poverty is the biggest issue affecting our society.

When these people were asked about wether resorting to crime to eliminate poverty was right and
surprisingly some of the people usually belonging to the lesser developed and backward areas were in
support of doing so.

WHAT IS POVERTY:

Poverty is a state in which a man needs adequate salary to have a reasonable existence.
Neediness may likewise be viewed as an aggregate state of needy individuals or poor groups
WHAT IS CRIME:

A crime as you all may already know is an illicit activity or action for which a man can be
rebuffed by law. Crime can be characterized in a wide range of ways.
RELATION SHIP BETWEEN THEM:

Generally everyone is of opinion that poverty is somehow related to crime and in most situations
it is correct but however this does not mean that al the crimes are due to poverty
the only reason that such a strong affiiation that is established between the two is
because when the people who are influencial commit crimes go uninvestigated.
CYCLE OF POVERTY:

AS it can be seen from the picture here it is made very clear that poverty is a big influencer towards
crime and so are all the by products of poverty that include joblessness etc.

LINK BETWEEN POVERTY AND CRIME:

So as it is shown in the picture clearly that how poverty and crime are interrelated with each other. In
most cases both of these things co exist in a system as shown in the cycle of poverty in
the previous slide. When there is poverty there is a situation of hopelessness and
jealousy which is a great contributing factor towards completely setting moral values
aside and influencing people towards crime. Due to these factors the cycle continues
and poverty and crime remain interlinked with each other.

CONTINUED:
Now here as you can see it is very clear that apart from poverty and crime being related with each other
gender is also a contributing factor towards such acts of crime and wrongdoings. In an
online report it was stated clearly that males are more inclined towards crime when it
comes to trying to eliminate poverty from their lives where as when it comes to females
they try to be more dependent on finding a job and earning their livelihood in a good
way.

POVERTY AND CRIME RATE IN PAKISTAN:

Surprisingly for the year 2016 there has been a decrease in the criminal activities as compared to the
year 2015. And this is not due to increased security or more active police but if you take
a look at the stats of poverty for the year 2016 there has been a noteworthy decrease in
the level of poverty so as also explained in the previous slides showing the link between
the two it is very clear that when poverty decreases and people are satisfied with their
living standards the crime rate also decreases and vice versa.

CONCLUSION:

As indicated in the survey and also as a general trend and mindset in our society it is a belief that every
poor person is a criminal and the two terms “poverty” and “crime” are very strongly
associated with each other but however despite of these assumptions when we talk
about facts it is clear that this is not the case not. every poor is not a law breaker and
not every law breaker is poor it is a general mindset that we have. It is still however true
that crimes are related with poverty in a direct manner but this is however, not true for
every situation.
