CONCRETING METHODOLOGY

This methodology contains procedure for concrete pouring for both

superstructure and substructure structural members of the project.

First, lean concrete of 50mm thick will be poured first directly onto the
bottom surface. Water pump will be set just outside the forms to dewater
the area before the installation of rebars and before concrete pouring.
Please take note that the said area will be prone to accumulate water
because of its elevation that is below the water table.

Application of Soil Poisoning shall then be applied to areas where it is

required (refer to PE-03-Z2TWR-19-HCC-SAF-MS-023). Installation of
Bentonite Geotextile shall then follow for structure in direct contact to soil.

After that, reinforcements will be set in place in accordance to the

Approved Cutting List and Approved setting-out plan. Starter bars for
columns and shear walls reinforcement will also be set in place.

Installation of formworks will be the next and then the preparation of the
surface to be poured.

For all kinds of structural members, formworks will be set into its proper
placement based on the approved shop drawings and will be secured and
tightened prior to concreting. Areas to be poured will also be free of trash
and other materials that will affect the bonding of concrete.

Pumpcrete will be used in pouring of concrete for the foundation and it will
be poured continuously. Mechanical vibrators will be used to consolidate
poured concrete and to eliminate trapped air bubbles.

Concreting of columns and shear walls will be both done in the same
manner. After the installation of reinforcing steel bars based on the
approved cutting list and setting of formworks for the required dimension
and sizes, they will be poured with concrete in such a way that a
maximum of two lifts of pouring will be made per floor level. This way,
formation of honeycombs on the surface of the concrete columns will be
avoided. Pouring of concrete for the first lift will be from the top of the
slab of the particular floor level up to the construction joint. The location
of the construction will be at middle half of the clear height of a particular
floor level. Second lift of concrete pouring for the columns will start from
the construction joint up to the bottom of the beam of the floor next level
(See For Construction Plan on sheet S-24). In cases where the clear height
of a particular floor level is at minimal, one lift of concrete poured will be
made for that particular floor level. From top of concrete slab of that
particular floor level up to the bottom of beam of the next level. To avoid
segregation of concrete materials due to pouring of concrete into deeper
formworks, a funnel will be used in pouring of concrete so that a maximum
of 1.5 meter of free fall of concrete will be maintained. Pumpcrete will be
used in pouring of concrete for columns on the lower level of the building
since tower crane would probably not erected yet at the time of concrete
pouring to those areas. Also, columns at the lower level has a larger
column dimensions compared to those on the upper level, thus it is still
convenient to use pumpcrete. Buckets will be utilized in concrete pouring
for the columns after the tower crane has been erected. Tower crane
bucket and a funnel will be suitable to use in columns of smaller dimension
compared to those larger dimensions at the lower level of the building.
Mechanical vibrators will be used to consolidate poured concrete to
prevent formation of air bubbles trapped into concrete and better bonding
of concrete.

For beams and slabs, the location of construction joint will be at a distance
of L/3 or within the middle third area from the face of the supports, where
L will be the clear span of either beam or slab. Necessary preparations for
both beams and slab will be made prior to concrete pouring.

For slab on-grade preparation, a subgrade will be compacted to 95% of its

maximum moisture content at a maximum 200mm thickness per layer.
Next will be laying of gravel bedding on top of the compacted subgrade
will again be compacted to flatten the surface. Then, a vapor barrier will
be laid on top of the gravel bedding to prevent rapid moisture loss from
the poured concrete. Contraction and expansion joint will be provided for
all types of slab to prevent concrete surface from cracking. These joints
including the construction joints will be filled with bituminous joint filler
material. For preparation of beams prior to concreting, first will be setting
of reinforcement to its proper location, quantity and length including
splicing and then checking the dimension and location of formworks all in
accordance to the approved shop drawings. For both beams and slabs, an
epoxy bonding agent will be applied on the face of the construction joints
prior to concreting of the succeeding section. Pumpcrete will be utilized in
pouring of concrete for both beams and slabs.

In concreting of retaining walls, sewage treatment plant walls and cistern

tank walls, pumpcrete will be used. Also, the location of construction joint
will be at the middle half of the clear height of the particular floor level.
Construction joint will be provided with waterstop of approved material.

In pouring of concrete for all structural members, a maximum height of

1.5m will be maintained for the free fall of concrete to prevent segregation
of materials.

Surface finish of concrete poured will be in accordance to the approved

shop drawings and as specified by the architect. Concrete curing will be
moisture curing method, by continuously fog spraying with water the
exposed surface of concrete. Burlap will be laid on top of the poured
concrete slab and will be moistened periodically until the minimum curing
period is attained.

Upon the completion of placement, a minimum number of days will be

required for concrete to set and hardened before the removal of
formworks as required in the specifications (please refer to PE-03-Z2TWR-
19-HCC-SAF-ST-006_190402_Proposed Removal Stripping Forms and
Shoring for Reinforced Concrete).
