6.5. Calculation for Roof Slab Formwork Support

6.5.1. Modelling Description

The roof formwork form work will be supported by BS scaffolding tubes. These supports will sustain
dead load and live load. The configuration of wall formwork as shown on Figure 14. The brace
connection is considered as pinned tipe. The calculation is assessed for particular section as shown
on Figure 15.

6.5.2. Loading Definition

The load applied on the wall formwork as follow:

a. Dead Load (DL)
• Scaffolding self-weight DLscaff
• Meva deck Dlform = 70 kg/m2
• Meva Girder DLgir = 5.47 kg/m
• Wet Concrete Slab DLconc = 62.5 kg/m2

b. Live Load
• Working live load LLcst = 250 kg/m2

c. Wind Load (WL)

• P (Wind load) = windward = 0.49 kN/m2

Wind Load X Direction

• Surface area = 0.7 x 0.3 = 0.21 m2
• Wind load = 0.1 kN (For detail calculation see attachment ,,,)

d. Seismic Load
For temporary condition the acceleration my be reduced, and to be applied as 20% acceleration.

6.5.3. Loading Methodology

The loads will applied perpendicular to the roof formwork (plywood) and transferred to each
secondary girder, and calculated/designed for tributary area as 700 mm of width. The load from
secondary girder will be transferred to primary girder which supported by scaffolding support. The
load pattern tributary area assessed for one girder (secondary girder) and the arrangement will be
applied to the othe girder. The load considered as length uniform load which applied to secondary
girder as basis for load input on structural analysis program.

Figure 20. Loading Transfer Philosophy

The applied load on each girder can be calculated as follow:

• Girder to girder distance lg = 300 mm

= 0.3 m
• Roof Slab Thickness Tslab = 250 mm
= 0.25 m
• Dead Load Calculation
o Formwork length uniform load qlfom = Dlform x lg
= 70 x 0.3
= 21 kg/m
o Secondary girder uniform load qLgir = DLgir
= 5.47 kg/m
o Dead Load DL = qlform + qLgir
= 21 + 5.47

= 26.47 kg/m
• Live Load Calculation
o Concrete length uniform load qconc = LLconc x Tslab x lg
= 2400 x 0.25 x 0.3
= 180 kg/m
o Construction length uniform load qcst = LLcst x lg
= 235 x 0.3
= 70.5 kg/m
o Live Load LL = qconc+ qLcst
= 180 + 70.5
= 250.5 kg/m

Typical loading for each girder as shown on Figure 19.

The applied load combination refers to ASCE/SEI 7-10 Section 2.3 as follow:
• COMB1 = 1.D
• COMB2 = 1.D + 1.L
• COMB3 = 1.D + 0,75.L
• COMB4 = 1.D + 1.WL
• COMB5 = 1.D + 0,7E
• COMB6 = 1.D + 0,75L + 0,75.W
• COMB7 = 1.D + 0,75L + 0.75.E
