It must be really stressing to young programmers and student

programmers to find a resource that can give solution and no cost to their

problem. The technology is continuously changing and evolved through time

created the Open Source Software namely the Jakarta Project. Open Source

Software can be define like this, ability to use resources from the internet without

worrying about the cost. It made a huge relief to both young and students

programmers but Open Source Software namely Jakarta Project is not just being

free and resource able.

Jakarta Project can develop things with its subprojects. There are many

main projects and subprojects made by Jakarta Project such as BCEL, BSF,

Cactus and etc. Tomcat is the most popular and useful software Jakarta Project

created. According to Krill (2013) Tomcat acts or behaves as a development

server on your desktop to use for testing when building application that use Java-

based dynamic web technologies. In fact “Apache Tomcat currently powers just

less than 1% of all websites in the world.” says Muilwijk (2016). As a young

programmer Jakarta Project is useful especially if you can’t afford to buy one.

Jakarta Project comes at a little cost to no cost. Mainly because of its

Open Source Software, study by Sood et al. (2016) We don’t need spend money

to buy expensive software or hardware to run the system, Organizations,

Schools, and Libraries can use this system as long as they want, without

worrying of costing any setup process even activation of it and monthly

subscription charges. “But in some cases service is the key issues of Open

Source Software, It relies on the Online Community” says Sood et al. (2016). It is

big relief for young programmers to hear this although assurance for its security

is a must.

Jakarta Project as Open Source Software made it less secured. With

nothing but a web browser and an internet connection, attackers can easily hack

the websites of at least 50% of fortune 100 companies according to a researcher

at ZDNet. “The Struts Framework is used by an incredibly large number and

variety of organizations. This security malfunction poses a huge risk, because the

framework is typically used for designing publically accessible web applications”

says Zack (2017). In spite of being popular and open publicly Open Source

Software Jakarta Project such as Apache Struts is a bit disadvantage.

After all those evidences shows that Jakarta Project is a good solution for

many Programmers out there because of being Open Source Software. It

contains major projects and subprojects that are useful to develop a thing that is

why it became popular to everyone. I truly believe that Jakarta Project as Open

Source Software are very helpful, imagine if you are a young and student

programmer like me don’t know where to find any resources Jakarta Project to

the rescue accessible around the web as evidences above. However, as

disadvantage security vulnerability of it is at stake as evidences shows that

having Open Source Software all the source codes are exploit around so that

public can freely access it just like what happen to Jakarta Project Struts. On the

other hand, Jakarta Project as Open Source Software made 1% of all websites

around the world which is a great achievement.

As an Information Communication Technology student for me, studying

and examining Jakarta Project: As Open Source Software is very difficult and

easy because although I am young programmer in somehow I still don’t know all

about the web. As time pass by I am learning new things by discovering this

Jakarta Project. It is really fun and exciting to be involved in this type of research,

because experiencing many situations is really challenging like finding related

studies or sources as much as possible. For future researchers, this research

could benefit them because I honestly construct and organize all these

information’s about the study aside from the citations of the studies supported my

research. Even my grammars are not good but still experiencing how to do a

research and exploring my topic Jakarta Project: As Open Source Software is

great experience and moment of a lifetime. After doing my research I found out

that Jakarta Project have been retired for accomplishing all the projects but

Apache are creating new project to continue, aside from that Jakarta Project

named after a coffee brand during its proposal and development before it

published. Overall, Jakarta Project as Open Source Software should be

programmers best friend and seen as a hero, not just a cheap and invulnerable

software.
