The diagram above shows an Op Amp as a comparator.

i) State one practical application of the above circuit.


ii) Determine the voltage at the inverting input?
iii) What range of values must the LDR be to cause the LED to light up?
iv) What would be the new value of the Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) if it were
switched around with R3?

2. For the op amp circuit below,

Determine:
a) The voltage at the inverting put
b) The range of resistances that will cause:
i) The red LED to come on.
ii) The green LED to come on

3. The op amp below shows sets of potential dividers that serve as the inputs. R1 = 10kΩ, R2 = 30kΩ
and R3 = 60kΩ. The top rail has a potential of +15Vand the lower rail is grounded (0V).

i) Calculate the value of the voltage at the inverting input


ii) Determine the value of the Light Dependent Resistor that will cause switching to occur
at the output.
iii) For what range of resistances of the LDR will the buzzer sound?

i) State what type of amplifier is shown above.


ii) Calculate the gain of the op amp.
iii) Use the graph to determine the bandwidth of the above amplifier for the gain calculated
in part (ii).
iv) The peak output voltage for an input signal of peak value 0.5 V and frequency
1.0 x 10 5 Hz. (NB. The power supply pins of the op amp is connected to ±12V)
v) On a single sketch, show how the input and output voltage varies with time
clearly indicating key values on both axes.

5. For the circuit below refer to the figure 5 below, to answer the question.
a) Determine the voltage at the non-inverting input.
b) The temperature of the room in which this circuit was made is 280C. Determine :
i) The resistance of the thermistor at this temperature.
ii) The value of the variable resistor that will cause the output to swing positively (i.e to
have maximum positive saturation)?

6. For the circuit below,


i) Determine the gain if R2 and R1 is 40kΩ and 8kΩ respectively.
ii) If the power supply rating is ±10V and the input is 2V to the op amp, determine VOUT.
iii) Sketch graphs of Voltage against time for the input and output of the op amp clearly
indicating key values on both axes.

i) For the circuit above calculate the output voltage (VOUT). *VSUPPLY = ±10V
ii) Three signals V1, V2 and V3 are to be combined to produce an output
Vout such that
Vout = -4V1 – 5V2- V3
Design a circuit to achieve this objective using only resistors with values
between 15 kΩ and 200 kΩ.
