Can you add and subtract from a number line using numbers from 1-20?

Students will work on a worksheet with different number lines.

Students will create their own addition/subtraction problem and represent it with a numberline.

Materials:

● Example worksheet. (A few examples can be done as a class)

● Different worksheets created by Hadas (3 in total)

As the students work the teacher will walk
around and engage with them, providing support
if needed.
Wrapping up the lesson:
Teacher doing: After a certain amount of time
(Enough so that all the students are done) The
teacher will ask for a few volunteers to show
their number lines to the class. (Max students 4)
Differentiation:
Struggling: Struggling students will be given
their equations that they will be able to solve.
Teacher should reserve a few minutes to provide
extra support to this student so they feel guided
in the lesson.
English Learners:
For PV students: Lesson will be taught in
Spanish (Mariana)
Students doing: The students will choose their
equation and write it on top of their number line.
They will circle the numbers that they will add up
with different colored markers or crayons. The
result number will be boxed with a different
color. Dotted lines can be drawn to show the
distance between the numbers.
Students doing: Students will share their number
line with a partner, once they are done 4 students
will share their number lines with the class.
Clean up time, putting away materials and
numberlines.
High Flyers: These students can be given a
number line with higher numbers if they
complete their first number line or they can help
other students.
Special Ed:
Visual parts of the lesson and teachers guidance
one on one will help these students.
