CLOTHING THE NAKED

Clothing the naked is mentioned in the Bible since the beginning of mankind.God clothed
Adam and Eve after realizing they were naked.The prophet Isaiah asks us: “ When you see
the naked,clothe them”.Our Redeemer tells us that if a person has two coats,he should give
one away.St. James,in his letter,teaches us:”What good is it if someone says he has faith
but does not have works?Can faith save him? If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and
has no food for the day,and one of you says to them,”Go in peace,keep warm,and eat
well”,but you do not give them the necessities of the body,what good is it?So also faith of
itself,if it does not have works,is dead”. To clothe the naked,it is the one of the Corporal
Works of Mercy.Jesus calls us to do something for those who are shivering from cold.He
calls us not to be establish a committee to develope a plan for it,but to do it ,To really and
truly clothe the naked,because ,this way,we are clothing Jesus himself.Clothing provides for
two basic human needs:protection and dignity and by clothing the naked we also gave them
hope and pride in their appearance.

Verse of clothing the naked in Old Testament:Isaiah 58:7 “Is it not to divide your bread
with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into the house;When you see the naked,to
cover him;and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?”
Verse in New Testament:Matthew 25:36 “I was naked and you gave me clothes to wear.I
was sick and you took care of me.I was in prison and you visited me.”

Nakedness is humiliating,and clothing eliminates the embarrassment and shame.Clothing is

needed to protect the body.Thin or lighter clothing is needed in sunlight to prevent sunburn
and skin cancer;heavier clothing is needed in cooler conditions to prevent chill.By giving
clothes to the naked,is an act of helping.In this Corporal work of mercy,Jesus calls us to do
something,he wants us to help.Jesus says, when we clothe the naked,we are clothing him.In
other words,we just may see the eyes of Jesus himself in the face of the person we
clothe.Not only will a person find warmth and dignity in clothing,but we ourselves will also
be transformed by the grace of God in the process.Not only should we experience good
life,we should help those who are less privilege.We are challenged to be charitable beyond
our comfort zone and to take an active part in restoring someone to their dignity as a
human person.”He who has two coats,let him share with him who has none.” (Luke 3:11)
