This Sunday, June 2, will be the final Sunday until the fall for our chimers, youth bell, and adult
bell ensembles. Those who come to the 8:30 am service will hear all three, and those who come
at 10:45 am will hear the chimers and the youth bells. Our chimers and bell players put in many
hours of practice and play challenging pieces of music, all under the very able direction of Ms.
Chris Perfetti. Under Chris’s direction the past few years, the difficulty of the pieces and the skills
of the bell players have risen dramatically, and the rest of us appreciate the hard work they give
to their part in glorifying God in worship. Thanks, Chris, and all the bell players and chimers!

The following Sunday, June 9, is Pentecost Sunday, often called “The Birthday of the Church.” Why the church’s
birthday? Because as recorded by the Book of Acts, Jesus had ascended into heaven, and though all outward
appearances suggested the disciples were on their own, they were most assuredly not on their own. They were
promised the Holy Spirit, and on the Day of Pentecost when the disciples were all gathered together in prayer, the
Holy Spirit came upon them in amazing and wondrous ways with wind and fire (Acts 2:1-3). The disciples did not
create the church in that moment; God created His Church through the inrushing of the Holy Spirit. The church of
Jesus Christ was born in that room where the disciples gathered, when the Holy Spirit gave them power to do
things otherwise humanly impossible. The wonderful thing is that the same Holy Spirit is with us today and enables
us to live lives filled with power, hope, and love if we will give our lives to Jesus our Savior.

Pentecost is special for us this year in two important ways: first, we will have one combined service of worship at
10:00 AM on June 9 so that we can truly worship as one unified body, and second, we will bring into membership
thirteen of our young people who have been through a very intense (and, I pray, enjoyable!) confirmation
experience since last November. These young people have been on three retreats and sat through a number of
classes, learning everything about the faith from who Jesus is in our lives to what their unique spiritual gifts are.
Their final requirement is to write a paper about what their faith means to them. I give thanks to Scott Kuhnle for
designing this program for them which is a constant reminder of how important their faith commitment is that they
will each make on June 9. Several of the confirmands who have never received Christian Baptism will also receive
the waters of Baptism that day as well. You won’t want to miss it, and please remember the time change for that
day only!

On Father’s Day, June 16, Scott will kick off a new sermon series, Mighty Men of Faith, and the series will continue
for three Sundays thereafter. There will also be lay testimonies on one of those Sundays which you will want to
hear. June will be an exciting month for us in other ways, as we kick off our summer Block Parties on Thursday,
June 6, and our annual carnival for the community on Saturday, June 8. There are always a variety of ways to
serve our Lord and Savior, and I invite you to read the rest of this Trumpet call to see all the opportunities. Have a

For the last three years, our Church family has hosted
an amazing outreach for our East Stroudsburg
neighbors and community: our Thursday night Summer
Block Parties!
Directed by Scott Kuhnle and our awesome youth
group, we grilled out every Thursday night in June &
July; brought the Word to the community, and offered a
time of worship. This summer, we’ll be doing it all over
again with the assistance of: ESUMC’s Outreach &
Evangelism Team, our Stephen Ministry Team, a few of
our Small Groups, and our Financial Peace University
graduates—but we still need your help and support
at these events!
Each group (above) has signed-up to help lead on a
specific evening —however—there’s still a BIG need for
a group to volunteer on Thursday, June 20th, and for
extra Thursday night volunteers throughout the summer.
There’s also a bunch of supplies still needed for our
weekly event. Please check out the following list:

You can bring any of these items to the Church with
you on Sunday, and leave them in the Kitchen labeled
“BLOCK PARTY.” Or, if you would like to drop supplies
off during the week, please contact Scott Kuhnle at

specific drop-off time.

Did you know that ESUMC has welcomed over 500
community guests to enjoy our FREE Carnival Event?
We did!!! Every year, each guest was given a FREE
food voucher that included: a free hot dog and drink, free
popcorn, free cotton candy, free carnival style games,
free prizes, and free balloon animals! And the Carnival
was an overwhelmingly successful event thanks to the
help and support of our Church Family!
This year, we'll be holding our 4th Annual Carnival on
June 8th from 3-6pm—weather permitting—in ESUMC’s
parking lot. Once again, ALL games, prizes, and food
will be provided FREE of charge!
Please prayerfully consider how you might be able
to us make this a successful outreach to our
community.

responsible for the management of the church, and
church owned property, including church owned
vehicles.
Responsibilities: Overseeing and supervising the
sextons in janitorial and maintenance duties. Oversee
that the facilities and grounds are always kept in peak
condition and appearance. Ensure snow removal is
scheduled and performed in a timely manner. Maintain
and ensure all church equipment is in working
order. Troubleshoot issues, schedule service as needed
maintain manuals, service agreements and scheduled
maintenance on all church equipment, including
vehicles. Review safety and accessibility issues of the
church with the Trustees as needed. Coordinate with On Wednesday, June 12th, The Older Kids will visit the
Trustees that all church properties are properly insured, Columns Museum in Milford and have lunch at Apple
inspected and operating in compliance with all Valley Restaurant. Departure will be at 9:30am (from

Preschool Nursery is looking
for special, caring individuals
to meet the needs of a
growing ministry in our
church. We have several
positions that will soon need
to be filled in our nursery
staff. Paid nursery staff
provide child care and teach
lesson on Sundays from 8:15-12:15 and work special
events, church services, and retreats throughout the
year. You must be 18 years or older, receive all of your
clearances, plus mentoring and training are

One of our Faith Promise Missions is the Pregnancy
Resource Center of the Poconos, and this is the time of
the year for our Baby Bottle Boomerang! We invite you
to pick up a baby bottle from the Church Office and
begin filling it with loose change around your
house. Please return the bottle on either Father’s Day,
June 16th or the following Sunday, June 23rd, at the
same table in Fellowship Hall.

VAN DRIVER NEEDED!!!
Our 2019 Russia Missions Team is looking for someone
to drive the Missions Team, in the Church van, over to
JFK on Thursday, August 8th (mid morning trip), and/or
home from the airport on Sunday, August 18th (time
TBD). Volunteers are suggested to (1) be comfortable
driving the Church van and (2) having some experience
